Except that Bush has dramatically increased Big Stupid Government spending on welfare plans designed to get reelection votes. Bush has never, and will never, say "Government isn't the solution to the problem. Government is the problem."

Nobody who would say something like that would have advocated the "free" pill vote-buying scam. Or the assault on the First Amendment that Bush signed. Or myriad other Big Stupid Government-enhancing measures he's approved. Reagan probably wouldn't have given all the federal parasites another paid holiday this coming Friday just because he died, either.

So no, Bush doesn't carry forward the Reagan legacy.

Agree.

As far as I can tell, Bush has no vision. He'd be better than Kerry, but not by much.

Those who were looking for a suitable successor in Bush must be very disappointed. Reagan's appeal extended to Democrats, while Bush has managed to alienate many conservative Republicans.

Agree. W is like Reagan in his dedication to principle regardless of the consequences. This is a tremendous asset that we need in all our leaders. However, W is not a fiscal conservative. Not even close.
