Stanley Cup Game 7 Predictions

Posted on 06/06/2004 8:26:49 PM PDT by MplsSteve

Game 7 of the Stanley Cup is tomorrow night.

Did you see last night's game?! Wow! Tampa Bay wins in overtime!

Who's everyone rooting for? Or who do you think is gonna win the game?

I'm rooting for the Tampa Bay Lightning. They're really gonna have to play their A game tomorrow night...but I think they'll pull it off.

Tampa wins 3-2.

Opinions anyone?

This is a real toss-up. Tampa should have the advantage at home, but in this series the road team has won most of the games.

If the Lecavalier line could ever figure out how to play defense, this series would have been over in five games.

This is ice hockey, the greatest game in the world, so anything could happen.

Besides, after the Belmont, I don't feel safe predicting anything. (BTW, did anyone besides me notice Smarty Jones' jockey reining the horse in twice on the final stretch?)

The ice melts and a fire starts and 15000 unruly fans are killed.

Could go either way. If Tampa in on its game they will win but the flames are hot on the road so who knows. I think I like Tampa overall but for not real reason, my Redwings whimped out early.

Supposedly..the NHL was going to put a stop to the clutching/holding thingy..which goes right allong with puck dumping..crash bang.

Hockey in the last few years has been irritating for me.
I used to be an NHL practice goalie..played with retired pro's..guys in tier 2,NHL farm systems..players who went to Europe when all doors where closed.

Hockey used to be exciting for speed, grace, skill and flow.
now..it seems if your team is crappy at picking a puck up off the boards...you go nowhere.
Sutters team in Calgary is a hold, hook, interfere par excellence squad.
The reason they have come so far..even though they get labelled..*Good tight checking team.

Tampa Bay would put 3 in the net in the first each game if it wasn't for Calgary's game..a game the NHL is allowing.

If Tampa can get room..they will beat Calgary....unless their Goalie messes up.

I can remember when Hockey was so exciting..40-50 shots each team..up and down..speed and pucks flying everywhere.
Bobby Hull winding up...duck!

The fights were better too...heck..guys like Wayne Cashman trying to take Chicago goalie Tony Esposito's head off with his hockey stick as he rounded the net.
Tony's brother Phil played with the Bruins.... it didn't stop Cashman one bit : )

Will great Hockey ever come back?...heavy sigh

I think it really is a complete toss-up. They are fairly evenly matched this series. But all things being equal, I will be routing for the U.S. based Lightning over the Flames...

Tampa has never won the Stanley Cup but they are literally on fire this year. Especially when the pressure is on.

I like their spirit. I say they win.

The NHL has two problems that inevitably result in the crappy game you see now: 1) lack of skill brought about by a major dilution in talent, and 2) an ice surface that effectively shrinks every year as the players get larger.

Item #2 is common to many sports these days, which explains why the quality of play has diminished in both the NFL and the NBA. The NBA is even worse than the NHL in this regard -- does any team even score 100 points in a playoff game anymore?

Seriously?

I was watching the race at a suburban dept store and I didn't see that.

But then again, I don't know much about horse-racing.

Was it that obvious?

LOL -- I understand.

I'm going to make a couple of phone calls tomorrow to friends of mine in Calgary, assuring them that a top hockey expert on FreeRepublic has predicted a 2-1 Calgary win.

Torts usually gets the guys up for the heavy games and Tampa got their bad game out of the way early in this series. With everything on the line for both teams, it'll be fun to watch.

Since Tampa hasn't been able to string 2 victories together in at least the last couple of series, tonite's the nite to start.
