Anti-war protesters clash with pro-Israel confreres
Thousands march down Market, want troops out of Iraq
Thousands of protesters took to the sunny streets of downtown San Francisco on Saturday, hoping to turn public outrage over prisoner abuse in Iraq into demands to withdraw U.S. troops.
A crowd estimated at 8,000 to 10,000 by both police and protest organizers gathered at United Nations Plaza, then marched down Market Street around noon to Justin Herman Plaza, where they listened to speakers demand an end to the U.S. military presence in Iraq.
As they neared the Embarcadero, the protesters ran into about 500 pro- Israel demonstrators, waving Israeli and American flags, and protesting what they see as an anti-Israel message from the anti-war protests.
The opposing groups started out at opposite ends of the walkway between the foot of Market Street and the Embarcadero, but verbal exchanges became increasingly heated as the afternoon wore on, and police were forced to step in and keep the groups apart.
The pro-Israel group that protested Saturday's protest was formed about a month ago as a response to what Israel supporters say is an anti-Israel stance presented during International ANSWER rallies and protests. Many in Saturday's march carried pro-Palestine and anti-Israel signs. Some said they oppose Israel's treatment of the Palestinians.

San Fran eh............the guy on the left sure can open his mouth wide. I "wonder" where he learned to do that??
Good job SF Chapter....I wish I could have made it...
Go figure the protest warrior guy's the one who's keeping his cool.
FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel ping list.
WARNING: This is a high volume ping list
Put one of these protestors at the scene of a bomb that has gone off on a school bus and they would instantly change their views. And if it didn't, they are not human.
This is why we fight them.
This is why we must win.
The protest pics are very interesting. Thanks for the link. I wonder why I never see this pictures in the press.
Sounds like a few miserable self-haters whose only objection to ANSWER is its pro-Arab orientation (aside from which they were violating Shabbat).
Some people simply will not believe that Israel and the Sandinistas don't fit together. You know--Pat Buchanan, Alan Dershowitz, this Kliman guy, Hollywood, etc., etc., etc.
Where was Bill Clinton?
The hatred responsible for such distortion can't be explained in conventional secular terms about "prejudice" and "otherness." `Am Yisra'el is destined to bring about the Kingdom of G-d on earth, and ironically more anti-Semites seem to realize this than Jews do.
LOL I wouldnt be surprised if that pic got Willy excited!!!
That map says it all. Post that everywhere!!!!
"A crowd estimated at 8,000 to 10,000"
What a crock! They were lucky if they had 5000 there. Besides a few screaming wingnuts I thought the real energy was on our side at this one. In fact "they" seemed taken aback by the huge crowd waiting for them. Having been at all but one of the SF counter protests with others at this forum, I think yesterday's was great! In the early days there were only about 10 of us taking part. The 4-more-years chant went over big. :) Protest Warrior and SF Voice For Israel did a fantastic job.
The area in front of the "speakers" was pretty empty and sales of traitorous stuff looked flat. The litany of places (Cuba, Haiti, Venezuala, Korea, Colombia, Afghanistan, Philippines, oh and Iraq) we need to get out of is expanding.
Unfortunately we had to find out about President Reagan's death from the speaker who informed everyone that he had good news. Reagan died today. The crowd cheered.
