Just about everyone I know back home carries. Only a moron would display their sidearm in public. The consequences should be readily apparent; though not to Mr. Pellitier.
Concealed carry means just that.
Even though he was minding his own business, the busybodies among us are always searching for something to hang gunowners with. Use your head.

The consequences should be readily apparent; though not to Mr. Pellitier. Yes. The consequences should be that he will soon own the town where this happened, and the cops that harassed him will lose their jobs and face federal felony charges.

I must disagree. I would open carry sometimes and got compliments and questions. But never disdain. (at least not from the law abiding folk)
BTW, Thanks for busting your butt over there.

I believe New Hampshire issues Pistol Permits and not CCWs. As such open carry is legal.

After reading the original story, what struck me was that if the person grabbing him had been a "bad guy" instead of a policeman, Mr. Pellitiercould well have had his own weapon used against him.
The pistol certainly didn't seem to offer any protection against the assault in the bookstore. Not that anyone expects to be assaulted in a bookstore.

New Hampshire and Vermont are both open-carry states. NH requires a permit for concealed carry, but not for open carry.
It's the law. The cops SHOULD know that. Before laying hands on someone, they certainly SHOULD have checked, even if they were ignorant of such a widely applicable law.
