A gunowners group is protesting the seizure of a legally armed citizen in a bookstore by two police officers who responded to an anonymous caller alarmed by the weapon.
Michael Pelletier was browsing a Manchester, N.H., Barnes & Noble with his wife March 27 when a police officer, assisted by a colleague, suddenly grabbed him by the right shoulder and his holster and pushed him toward the corner of a bookcase, says Gunowners of America.
The Manchester Police Department officers, Chris Byron and David DuPont, ordered Pelletier to place his hands on his head, which he did at once, the group said.
Pelletier was carrying a pistol openly at the small of his back, which became apparent after he took off his jacket.
The officers then disarmed Pelletier and escorted him out of the store. Background checks revealed no record, but officers and detectives issued a barrage of questions about why he carries a gun and what kind of training he had, the gun group said.

I have to admit, Amelia does bring up a very valid point here.
Why? Open carry is legal in New Hampshire.
Even when the commit crimes, including federal felonies like the jackboots mentioned in this article likley did?
but you, and this idiot who got hassled by the police are indeed morons.
For believing that this is a Free country, and that people have a Right to be left alone unless they are breaking the law?
without the good sense to keep his weapon concealed, as to not alarm the general population deserves to get arrested
According to what law in New Hampshire? Or is it now "okay" to arrest people just because some sheep gets 'alarmed'?
Some states do allow for open display, only as far as removing the gun and putting it in a fanny pack for instance, but discretion must be observed
And many states "allow" for open carry virtually everywhere. In New Hampshire, open carry is legal in most public places.
Sadly morons like this joker who think walking about in public with a gun in the small of his back, are hurting responsible gun owners like myself nationwide.
I disagree. The more folks that carry guns openly, the more it becomes "acceptable" to the sheeple.
And likewise Wyoming has much better gun laws than states where you have to cover it up and hide it like it's some sort of disease.
I checked on packing.org last night and apparently open carry in public is perfectly legal in New Hampshire.
I understand the tactical and the "don't want to be harassed" arguments for going concealed 100% of the time, but that results in a culture of sheep that don't see armed citizens in public, making them more likely to vote for gun control.
In a way, that was probably a blessing for him. If he had fought these thugs, it's likely he'd be either dead or in jail facing felony charges.
Now that most states have shall-issue CCW, the next step should be to go to Vermont-style CCW, where you can carry either openly or concealed without a "permit".
Alaska adopted a law to do so last year.
Colorado and New Hampshire tried to do so earlier this year but failed (it actually passed the NH House).
There is currently a bill in Utah to do so.
And here in Florida, your silly sign would have absolutely zero legal standing.
He should see a lawyer. Sounds like he has grounds for a lawsuit.
Damn straight. Said as only a man who pray's every god damn day could say.
The two month anniversary of this incident has passed, so that request no longer applies. Time to turn up the heat. They've been doing their "internal investation" long enough.
I spoke with Governor Benson on Thursday May 27, and his response was "they're still doing that??" and having his aide jot down a note for the Attorney General. Judging by his reaction, there will be a memo going out to the police chiefs and sheriffs on this subject. Gov. Benson also carries concealed.
This WND article was probably spurred by Larry Pratt's publication of a GOA Action Alert that was drafted last week, vetted by my attorney, Penny Dean of Concord, who's also on the board of Gun Owners of New Hampshire.
Sorry if I passed innacurate information. I just read the original thread yesterday, and I didn't want anyone to harm your case. So an all out FReeping is acceptable now?? : )
INACCURATE.
He wasn't IN Idaho, for heaven's sake.
Let me ask you, if a person is going to carry a gun so that it's readily available if needed for self-defense, but difficult for someone else to use offensively, do you think carrying it behind you at the small of your back is optimal, or are there other types of holster both easier for you to reach and harder for someone else to access?
Well for one thing i wouldnt carry it in the small of my back i would carry it as a sidearm in a holster and gunbelt just as i have for some 30 years now
My freinds and i for years have carried it that way into every establishment that allowed it before intrusive gun laws took effect in Ohio it was nothing to walk into a sporting goods store and buy ammo with my gun strapped to my side or a restaraunt to have a meal and when the police talked to you it was in front of you to your face not in a paniced manner as if you were a criminal but a citizen !
So to answer your question NO i dont think it was wise to carry it in the small of his back but the police should have approached him much more differently because most criminals are not going to brandish a weapon holstered or not untill they are ready to break the law !
I've got an ID CCW permit. ID is still an open carry state, and I've never been hassled for carrying openly, even in Boise.
