Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass: "On foreign policy he will be honored as the president who won the Cold War, and his 'Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall' will be linked forever with President Kennedy's 'Ich bin ein Berliner.' President Reagan and Nancy were always very gracious to the Kennedy family and they are both very much in our thoughts and prayers in this difficult time."

Bartleby.com is an online source for quotes. They list 6 from President Clinton. They list 161 from President Ronald Reagan.

Reagan would still be great if no one said a word about him. Its that's obvious.

I wonder how many others today, like me, sat down with their young children and told them who this great man was. If his passing away can be an impetus to a passing of the conservative torch to a new generation then he has once again helped to defeat those who abhor freedom.

Teddy's right about Reagan winning the cold war but Teddy must be hitting the Sterno now.

It is also a sign of greatness to be able to give praise to your "enemy".

his 'Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall' will be linked forever with President Kennedy's 'Ich bin ein Berliner.'

Who are you? And what did you do with the real Ted Kennedy?

"Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass: "On foreign policy he will be honored as the president who won the Cold War,..."

The operative words here are "he will be honored as"; Kennedy did not say that Pres. Reagan, in fact, won the Cold War.

How easy it is to forget that when Reagan was elected Teddy Kennedy sent former Senator John Tunney of California to the Kremlin to tell the leaders (and the KGB) not to worry. The Democrats would take care of Reagan. That Reagan won the Cold War is no thanks to Teddy Kennedy who opposed him every step of the way.

The 1984 Kerry position paper is powerful stuff. I hadn't seen it before.

I felt it deserved a thread of its own, so I took the liberty of "stealing" it and posting it here.

I can see I'm very much in the minority here... but the statement irked me. Ted just HAD to work in his brother and his big speech in Berlin. You know what, Ted? Maybe, just this once, this isn't about you or your family!!! Maybe just for today, we can focus on something other than the staggering contributions of the Kennedy Dynasty to America?

In one of my local papers this morning, I read this irritating snippet about how sure, Reagan won the Cold War, but all the other Presidents had first stricken it devastating blows... and in the list, cited Kennedy landing a man on the moon as defeating the Soviets' "humanistic hubris" or something like that. I know the moon landing was historically significant in terms of technological development competition, but I don't think it was a staggering blow to the Cold War (and the liberals who claim it is should consider its price tag while they carp about the Reagan defense budgets, shouldn't they?). It seemed as if even now, some commentators and liberals can't even cite President Reagan's accomplishments without working in a "but..." of some kind, and Ted Kennedy's statement struck me that way.... "but my brother said it first" kind of approach.

It's useful to emphasize contrast.

Was watching C-Span last night and couldn't believe some of the vicious, obnoxious callers and C-Span let most of them finish their attacks on Reagan and the Reagan years. I wondered why these obnoxious people were even watching!any of the coverage. I had to change the channel, just could not stand anymore vicious liberal callers.
