Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass: "On foreign policy he will be honored as the president who won the Cold War, and his 'Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall' will be linked forever with President Kennedy's 'Ich bin ein Berliner.' President Reagan and Nancy were always very gracious to the Kennedy family and they are both very much in our thoughts and prayers in this difficult time."

"Perfectly stated! And President Reagan would never even take off his jacket in the Oval Office, out of respect for the Office of the President of the United States."
Reagan wouldn't take off his jacket in the Oval Office.... and Bubba couldn't keep his pants on. :(

You know, they ridiculed him for being with that chimp but the one wonderful thing about Ronald Reagan was his remarkable knack for timing. Even in death, he surprised us by changing the tone of our national conversation to more lasting things. All we can say to The Gipper now is, wherever you are, rest in peace and we all love you. That's all that really needs to be said at this moment.

Did you catch
Danny Glover's "dignified and respectful" comments at the end of the article?
Actor Danny Glover: "We all know Reagan's legacy, from the Iran-Contra affair to the funding of the Nicaraguan military in which over 200,000 people died. The groundwork for the move steadily to the right happened with the Reagan administration. People want to elevate him to some mythic level; they have their own reason for doing that."
What a total jackass!
Danny Glover is nothing but a bitter, radical, far-left-wing, no-class, dumbass, stinking-rotten TOOL!!

They think they damn him with praise. In really, they're just testifying to something Rush has said repeatedly for awhile now: true greatness speaks for itself. Reagan would still be great if no one said a word about him. Its that's obvious.

Reagan's official biographer, Lou Cannon, did a masterful job of impartially, accurately and vividly transcribing the thoughts of Reagan during his years as Governor, president and ex-president, interpreting them in the fairest possible manner and then giving us his own perspective on Reagan's policies.
I read his profile of Reagan during his years as governor of California-the body of reportage occurring when Cannon was assigned to the capital beat by the San Jose Mercury-News-and was immediately enthralled.
Anyone who is looking for a fine biography of our former president should rush to their local bookstore or public library and pick up that book.

May be the first time I've ever seen Ted Kennedy behave well. I'll feel free to trash him later for his many awful remarks - but for now, let's just admit Ted behaved with grace this time. Hoe others will follow this example.
To: Mr Rogers
I agree. He actually gave him credit for some of his accomplishments, unlike Kerry and most of the other Democrats who praise him only for his genial nature.
To: norcalvet
I just wonder.....HOW MANY cocktails had Teddy consumed before making that statement? I'm shocked at the generosity from Kennedy towards Reagan at this sad time.

I can't stand the man, but kudos to him for his comments. For once he can see the light and rise above petty politics. Amazing!

I must protest seeing Kennedy and Reagan in the same thread as I protest seeing Clinton and Reagan in the same thread.Well, fasten your seat belt because Clinton told MSNBC he would be at the funeral to pay his respects. Honestly, I don't begrudge him that. As an ex-president he should attend.
I wonder which foreign leaders will attend? I am very curious to know if Gorbachev will attend.
If anyone ever deserved a state funeral it is definitely Ronald Reagan.
