I was at home and in a hurry, getting ready for the drive to visit my mother in her new assisted living place. Normally I have Fox News on just about all the time, but I had been trying to catch a few minutes of MSNBC's very good D-Day coverage. I heard Lester Holt interrupt the regular broadcast with the news that President Ronald Reagan had died.

I suddenly wasn't in a hurry anymore, stopped in my tracks to listen to the news, my eyes immediately tearing up...

I was at my office working, and just checked into Free Republic. My first reaction was the save the FreeRepublic main page for posterity.

My mother had FNC on in the family room. I was in my room scanning something for her on my computer. After printing the copy and emerging from my room to present it, the first thing she says is "Reagan died".

I was home from work for about 20 minutes, had just logged off of FreeRepublic, was getting ready to grab two beers from the fridge to go outside and BS a bit with a friend.

My wife was watching Fox News channel and told me. I glued myself to the television for about a half an hour then logged back onto FreeRepublic.

Earlier today I had read about his turn for the worse and remember thinking that his time was likely near.
Then this afternoon I was in the kitchen when my husband called out from the next room that he had died. I was stunned and saddened. Voting for Reagan was the first Presidential election I participated in. I have to say though that it has been in the context of later events that I have come to value and appreciate Reagan's contribution more.

We got home from Walmart around 6ish and watched the Belmont Stakes. Immediately following the race coverage NBC ran a special report on his life, and I sat there and watched it in tears. Reagan is the first president I can remember (I was born Nov '76) so his passing has hit me hard. I don't believe we'll ever have another president quite like him.

I had just returned home after taking my 14-year old daughter some 60 miles away to take the SAT for the 1st time. First thing I did I turned my PC on and was shocked by the news.

This is a little off topic but my wife is shouting in my ear that she remembers seeing Nancy on television saying, "This one's for the Gipper" in some context or another and I told her she's imagining things; what say y'all here????

When Reagan was president, I hated the man. I wrote editorials saying how he was going to lead us to nuclear war. I said he was going senile in 1987 when he gave that speech at the Berlin wall. I also mocked the military quite a bit in those years.

Then the Soviet Union collapsed. And I began the long process of admitting that conservatives were right.

I heard of Reagan's death when I looged on the computer after changing out of my Navy uniform, fresh from a day of doing reserve drill.

I was posting on a board called "True Conservatism", and happened to check DRUDGE. It could not have been more than five minutes. He is the greatest President of the Twentieth Century. G-dspeed to Ronaldus Magnus and his family.

I was at the market picking up onions, garlic, and peppers to replenish my spice rack, after dehydrating of course.

God bless you Ronny. I would have been a different person without you.

I was freeping with my good friends in the DC Chapter. I think in retrospect it was very appropriate. We won one for the Gipper.

I don't think it will be the same at all. His death was somewhat expected: he was 93 and suffering terribly from alzheimer's disease.

I remember where I was when the Challenger thing happened.

That was a real tragedy. Today was the simple passing of a great man.

I was at Yankee Stadium watching the Texas Rangers-Yankees game. They made the announcement, put Reagan's image and life dates on the big screen and had, I am proud to say, a very respectful moment of silence.

Driving home from a blind date, I turned on WLS radio. The host on the only liberal show they have was holding back his comments as he took call after call from Americans who wanted to recall and pay tribute to the greatest president of the last century.
The timing of his depature tore down the wall of liberalism for the day.
Prayers for his family, he rests with his savior.

I was at the Joy Luck Chinese restaurant with my niece and daughter. The proprietors had a tv playing loudly and were all watching the news. Watching them watch the news so intently added another lump in my throat.

I called my husband to see if he had seen the news, he hadn't. By the time we got home, he had the following memorial put together and asked me to share it with all of you.

My husband is working on a new memorial web site and planned to launch it at the end of this month. But today a hero passed who was important to many of us and a hero to my husband. In his honor he has set up a special pre-launch memorial for his first president, "Ronald Wilson Reagan".

We invite you to visit http://RememberedByUs.com/RonaldReagan to light a candle and leave a personal message.

If anyone has any contact information for the Reagan family, please freepmail me or just tell the family about it. I think they would cherish the words.
