I love Reagan, but to me, Reagan "died" the day he announced he had Alzheimer's and never made another public appearance. His spirit was trapped for years in motionless shell, with no intellectual self-awareness. So I think it a poor comparison to JFK's assassination, or to someting like 9/11. To be fair, even though people didn't know about JFK's Addison's, Kennedy was in the prime of life and killed instantly; Reagan was at the age that most of us will die, and burdened with a terrible disease.

I was at dinner with my family when I saw the TV above the bar holding Reagan's picture for a long time. Although I was pretty sure what this meant, I walked closer and saw the "1911-2004" underneath.

I was watching the Addams Family marathon on TVLand, and switched over to FNC during a commercial break. As soon as I heard them mention Reagan, I knew.

For some reason, I thought when I read Drudge's report this morning that this would be it, and I had already prepared a tribute for the spokanegop.org homepage.

I hate to say it, but the day Reagan was shot will always stand out in my mind more than the day he passed. Not that i'm not saddened but he has actually been gone quite awhile now. Anyway, I was driving to my class at ODU when I heard he had been shot. When I arrived at the campus, I headed to the library to meet some friends. I told them all what happened. A black guy in our group said "good" and started laughing. I was mortified and stunned that anyone could have that attitude. I will always remember that day.

The TV and radio were off. I had been composing a text document offline. I logged onto FR/My comments and saw a thread from mhking's ping list with the announcement.

I was reading the comments section of a Kim DuToit blog posting about the new Harry Potter movie. One of the posters mentioned the news, and the whole tone of the comments changed.

Kind of weird, I admit, but at least it will always help me remember where I was.

I was on-line all day and thought I would check the Freep boards and seen a thread that said Reagan was sick, i posted to the thread then seen moments later that he had passed away, just been watching TV and reading on line news sites since then.

I went to a chat with some friends and one lipped off that he was glad he was dead and only wished that it was Bush instead...Well, I may have a few less friends, but that SOB knows how I feel and the feedback I have heard since then it seems the big mouth was DEFINATLY in the minority and left soon after I did. I'll stick with the Freepers tonight :)

I had just got home from work. Reagan had been dead for a little over an hour. I hopped on FR and saw a post titled, "Brolin makes statement on Reagan", or somesuch nonsense. More bloviating. Then I went downthread and found that the Gipper had passed into memory.

Then I went and posted a short memoriam to my blog.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

I had just come into my kitchen while cutting my grass and glimpsed Fox News, which is always on, and they were talking about his death. I started crying when I heard it and am now again crying while I type this.........

I don't know how to truly express this loss to our country........

Don't allow the media to spin Reagans death as they did his life. Go to the FR Reagan Vigils post and pledge to organize or attend a vigil in your area.

When I logged on to FR it was the first thread I saw. I didn't have the news on so that was the first I had heard of it.

I was with members of O.S.O.T., having lunch at Galloping Gertie's after a support the troups gathering on the bridge outside Ft. Lewis. The horse race (on TV)was interrupted with the news. We all bowed our heads and said a prayer for this wonderful soul, a gift from God to this nation and the world. May his legacy live on and on and on.....

I was listening to Fox News on XM radio. First it was reported that his death seems to be imminent. An hour later the news hit.

I'd like to relay some distinct memories I have of the Great One.

During the campaign against Carter, it was probably two or three days before the election and both candidates were doing their last campaign push. And I saw a report that included footage of a Reagan rally. And I saw this footage that showed a woman with a sign that read: "Why not an actor? We've had a clown for the last 4 years." I was sold.

Then I remember being in Germany (Dad had just been stationed there) and on the way to some swimming lessons I was listening to American Forces Network on my loop-to-loop panasonic radio as Reagan was being innaugurated. And suddenly they cut to a news report that the hostages held in Iran had been released and were in the air leaving Iran. Of course there was the disproved conspiracy theory that there was some secret deal involving Bush senior. The fact was that Iran knew Ronnie was not going to sit around and negotiate. Bottomline: the Iranians were scared S$$$less.

And in trying to limit this to three memories, I was on base when the news of the attack against Libya happened. We were worried but resolute. I remember the reports about our "accidental" bombing of the French embassy. I didn't learn until later that France had refused the US fighter planes to fly through French airspace for the mission. Now that's a message sent if I ever saw one.

Reagan was the man. And George doesn't have quite the same magnetism but I believe he has the same honest "this is what I believe and I'm sticking with it" attitude that Reagan had.

I was FReeping and kind of expected it to happen today.

I caught original wind of the fact that it was not a good day when I logged on to a local news & discussion website.

I had just gotten home in disgust after a going-away party for my cousin (a marine), who is going to Iraq for one year after having served throughout the Afgan war.

What made me so disgusted is that his scuzzy mother and grandparents keep telling him, "I hate Bush! We have no business there! Iraq isn't worth a single American life!"

What these scumbags are really telling him is that HE has no business there, and that HIS sacrifice is worthless and there is no good in what HE is doing.

I left early, but I hope his patriotic enthusiasm holds up against their evil Democrap barrage.

I hate all liberals and Demoncrats!

God bless and keep our greatest president ever; Ronald W. Reagan!

I love you, Mr. President. Take our struggles up to God with you, and, as you look down upon us, pray for our country.

I just poseted on the other thread - I was at the Belmont Stakes race. 100,000+ people there, they put the notice up on the large screen TVs and public address system. All rose, you could here a pin drop as we stood for the moment of silence, the flag at the track was lowered to half staff.
