Ronald Reagan was the greatest President of the 20th Century. He personified everything that was good and true and honorable about what it meant to be an American... about how great we were, and how great we could still be again. He was a servant and a statesman, not a politician or a partisan. Above all else, he was a Christian.

i posted this on another thread too, don't know where it should go, not really a tribute, just a memory
    i remember coming home from school the day Ronald Reagan was shot. I had written a letter to him although I can't remember what it was about. I imagine it was a school project or something. So my grandmother told me he had been shot, and my first reaction was extreme sadness and childish selfishness ----" i guess he won't get my letter". then she told me he was alive. and i was happy. that night i got to work with my crayons and construction paper and made a get well card with all my favorite super heroes on it. a few months later i got a thank you note in the mail. i still have it. i think it's really signed by Ronald Reagan. It's his signature and it's definitely signed in ink. those were the days.

What agreat story! What a great thing to pass on to your kids and grandkids...something for them to look at with wonder and hope...knowing that there are great leaders who care and who are not distant.

Ronald Reagan was a God send to this nation when we needed it most. Thanks to him for his life and his vision, commimtnet and virtue...and thanks to God for blessing us with such a leader.

As I posted yesterday... I feel like I've lost my father. There were two important men in my life who formed my political idealogy: my Grandfather and Ronald Reagan. As a child of the 80s, I only remember bits and pieces of Ronald Reagan’s presidency. But what I remember most is the pride my Grandfather felt for his country knowing that Reagan was leading us. My grandpa would often use words like strong, resolute, compassionate, trustworthy, genuine, and ‘smart like a fox’- one of grandpa’s favorites- to describe Reagan. So I grew up expecting these characteristics in a president.

So thank you, Mr. President, for helping shape a world where we are more free and more fortunate for having had you as our leader.

Great thread, Jeff!

I've read most of the posts, and some brought tears to the eyes. I don't know what to say - he was the first President that I got to vote for (and that was before I really knew that I was a conservative).

I'm a little speechless, but I will say that this great man has changed the world for the better. He's among the best Presidents ever to lead this country, and he's one of those rare individuals that appear from time to time in life - a born leader with vision and the proper amount of odacity to get things done. The world has lost much with Ronald Reagan's passing on, but Heaven has gained.

May the Gipper R.I.P.!

I agree 100%. Ronald Reagan was the first I ever voted for. Having a WWII father and Uncles and having a family that was history minded I was raised proud of my country and those who settled and fought for it.

Vietnam protesters and the counterculture crowd conflicted with what I learned at home. Jimmy Carter's ineptitude and the Iran hostage ordeal seemed to paint a curtain of pessimism over this nation.

Reagan removed that curtain. Reagan took control and was a leader.

The shadow of the Cold war was always at the back of my mind as a kid and young adult. In Miami growing up we had to take a class in high school called Americanism versus Communism. My view of the world was black and white--The west Vera's the Soviets and Warsaw pact, where the sole purpose of each side was to wipe the other out.

Reagan changed that view from Black and White to one of vivid color. His confrontation with communism changed the world we live in today and destroyed the shadow of the cold war forever. I still stop and ponder "who would have ever thought the Berlin wall would topple and the Soviet Union crumble?"...mind boggling and Reagan is the leader who caused it to happen in our lifetimes.

Enough of that. Its great to see you here again. I don't know if you're going to post more--I hope you will. You have friends here.
