FEINSTEIN INTRODUCES "ASSAULT WEAPONS" REAUTHORIZATION BILL
NRA-ILA
June 4, 2004
Yesterday, vehemently anti-gun Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.)introduced S. 2498, legislation that would reauthorize the Clinton gun ban. The bill is being held on the Senate floor and could come up at any time.
This is the start of a sustained political battle we`ll be waging over the next few months. Our opponents will continue to work at every turn to try and accomplish their anti-gun goals, and we need to be prepared. Please visit NRA-ILA`s informative website-- www.ClintonGunBan.com --and learn the facts about this debate, which has too long been driven and dominated by falsehoods and emotion. And please forward this website to others who need to know both the history and the truth about this issue. Then, please contact your Senators and urge them to oppose S. 2498 or any other legislation seeking to extend the so-called "assault weapons" ban.
You can find contact information for your elected officials by using the "Write Your Representatives" tool at http:/www.NRAILA.org, or you can call your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121.
That is 100% absolutely correct. I have had the same hard-earned perception myself for many years now. "More people equals less freedom", is how I state it to people.
And this POV is not new -- it seems that this has been a truism for a long time. Thomas Jefferson put it quite eloquently:
"The mobs of the great cities add just so much to the support of pure government as sores do to the strength of the human body."
Boy, we're all over the place today, ain't we!
Bump
Imagine if five or six with "assault rifles" attacked the elevator of the Seattle Space Needle, took it to the top, and barricaded themselves among 100s of tourists? They could disable the elevator, and begin cutting infidel throats and tossing them off the Space Needle, in full view of the world on TV, firing at helicopters that got too close.
Imagine doing this during the Republican convention.
This would ALL be blamed on Bush: gun show assault rifle sales, open borders, all of it.
If the gun grabboids continue their successful propaganda war, they will also succeed in perverting the American attitude toward firearms.
In twenty years, it will be easier to convince "normal" 13 year old boys to engage in sex with each other than to touch evil firearms.
In the meantime, I remain, er, shall we say, "prepared", in my day-to-day activities and travels.
Strike hard & fade away, because you know the "authorities" would be quick to mistake one for the bad guys.
We live in interesting times.
What's your Firing Line handle?
It's going to be a hot summer!
The "bulletin board" forums like TFL and The High Road are much less user-friendly than FR, because there is no handy self-search or my comments tool. I just lurk, post comments here and there, but I don't expect to get into good give-and-take conversations. It's too hard to keep track.
To ALL: Head over to the sites we're linking and bump the appropriate threads. Post whatever info you have re: contacting congresscritters.
When they get to work on Monday, let's make it interesting for them.
I'd like to phrase this a different way. I want America to grow from the inside -- by encouraging Americans themselves to have bigger families. The reasons for this are widely discussed on FR, so I won't belabor the point. But in line with your concerns, I also want us to encourage living options that spread us out further again. And I want us to rethink the way we raise children in the cities. I figure we can have big cities and lots of farms both. We just need to remember that video games, TV, and the Internet aren't good babysitters. Our universities are spewing out culture destroyers, and those people are wandering around on the streets of our cities wreaking havoc on our values and traditions. They're turning our cities into laboratory experiments. We need intellectuals to help us cope with urban sprawl and population density, and all of these things. But too often intellectuals propose socialism as a panacea to all problems in our cities. We could have big cities if people weren't so dependent on anyone else besides themselves and their government handouts!
If we were intelligent about our human growth, I think we could sustain many more people. We can do this. I think we have to do it. It's just as important as protecting the Constitution or building missile defense systems.
I agree. JimRob ought to market his software for this stuff. I know of no other board that's as easy to operate as FR.
That would be Harvey Milk.
WOuldn't surprise me to learn that his assassin was another queer.
Also, Senator Kerry would have to show up again for it to pass...and that could be swatted down with a single filibuster. Senator Daschle is also on the spot over this vote.
So even passage in the Senate isn't assured...much less getting by the House...and if the "renewal" contains any new gun control, then President Bush will veto it.
Ergo, I don't see it being renewed...but I do see this as a good chance to knock down another liberal issue by defeating this thing cold.
That's the name! Actually, and unfortunately, I believe his killer was a Republican, or at least rightwing. I know he was defeated by Milk in an election out there.
The more solidly it is smacked down, the less chance or motivation Feinswine will have to bring it up again.
She's only pulling this now because of how close it is. If it's totally nuked, and not just "barely defeated", it's gone for the year.
