Barbra Streisand will perform at a Kerry campaign concert June 7, 2004 at Los Angeles' Walt Disney Concert Hall, headlining the show with Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson, Billy Crystal and other artists to be announced. It will be Ms. Streisand's first public performance since she led the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee event in September of 2002, raising a record sum in excess of $6,000,000 in the process. Two years prior to that, her Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium concert brought a record $5,000,000 to the Gore for President campaign. The June 7 event is one of two concerts announced by the Democratic National Committee to benefit Kerry Victory Committee 2004, the Kerry campaign and the DNC. The second concert on June 10, 2004 will feature Bette Midler, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Jon Bon Jovi, Wyclef Jean, Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg.
In October of 2000, Ms. Streisand made concert appearances at LA's Staple Center and New York's Madison Square Garden. Since then, her only appearances have been to benefit political candidacies and charitable and humanitarian causes which she passionately supports.

Stars Love Kerry!
Written by: Joyce Faulkner
Two Star-studded Concerts Planned to Raise Mondy for Kerry Presidential Bid.
Presumptive Democratic candidate for President John Kerry is finding support in the artistic communities on both coasts. His good friend Jann Wenner, editor and publisher of Rolling Stone Magazine, will executive produce two major fund-raising events -- one in Los Angeles and one in New York. Some of the entertainment business biggest stars are stepping forward to lend their names and talents to the effort. Kerry will speak at both galas.
In Los Angeles, Wenners co-producers are Marty Erlichman, Barbra Streisands manager; Harvey Weinstein, co-chair of Miramax; and Ken Erlich, special events producer. Rhea Pearlman and Danny DeVito, Laurie and Larry David, Warren Beatty and Annette Benning, Ted Danson and Mary Steenbergen, Dustin Hoffman, Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Rita Wilson have agreed to serve on the host committee. The event will feature performances by Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson and Billie Crystal.
In New York, Wenner and Weinstein will be joined by John Sykes, chairman and CEO of Infinity Broadcasting System. The stellar host committee includes Chevy Chase, Jimmy Fallon, Richard Gere, Jessica Lange and Uma Thurman. The show will star Bette Midler, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Jon Bon Jovi, Wyclef Jean, Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg.
Wenner acknowledges that this is an ambitious project. The artist community is united on this because of the kinds of values that the artist community shares and feels deeply are very threatened by the current administration, he said. Although that is sufficient reason to bring out many of these stars, Kerry has long been a friend of the arts.
After-action report: FReepers, "Flipper" - and "Flip Flop" Kerry in East Los Angeles (5/5)

Kerry event FReeped today outside Woodrow Wilson High School in East LA
First of all let me say thank you to all those who were present today for the FReeping; We did a GREAT job, considering we didn't have much time to prepare, and that today is a weekday. I must say, I was somewhat disapointed that "Mr. Kerry" didn't get to see us, but as I'm sure, RonDog, and other FReepers present will tell you, we still got noticed by everyone else.
The highlight of the FReeping was of course "FLIPPER" (the dolphin); This guy stood there in a dolphin suit for some two hours, and let me tell you, IT WAS VERY HOT, that poor guy... RonDog also had the GREAT idea of bringing some "flipper" balloons which got a lot of attention. We had a lot of home made signs, and a few Bush/Cheney signs and stickers provided by Mr.Oscar Gutierrez, who also did a great job talking to some of the media people who were present. The flip-flops were EVERYWHERE, From a Flip-Flop shaped sign, to a bag full of flip-flops for everyone on the back.
Nonsurprisingly, there was some people who were really angry about us "ruining their party", there was some yelling, and more middle fingers than I could count; at the same time, there were some who waved and honked horns, I never get tired of this.
GREAT JOB FReepers!!
P.S.: I will try to get you guys some pictures before the end of the day...

Note the "FLIPPER" costume, the LARGE "flip flops" - and the helium-filled "DOLPHIN" balloons......plus the LARGE BLOCK LETTERS on the signs.CLICK HERE for the rest of that thread
"FIGHT (ACLU) RATHER THAN SWITCH" RALLY

WHEN: Monday, June 7, 2004. 5:00 p.m
Tuesday, June 8, 2004 7:00 a.m. until the Board votes.
WHERE: Corner of Temple and Grand Downtown Los Angeles in front of the Hall of Administration.
WHAT: Bring signs protesting the ACLU's demand to remove the cross and the RECALL of Burke, Molina, and Yaroslavsky.
QUESTIONS? SaveTheCross@hotmail.com
NOTE: No poles, brooms or large pieces of lumber. Slats measuring 1 1/2" wide by 1/4" thick may be used. No restrictions on length.
We are FReeping (gently) our local Catholic church tomorrow - I'm thinking Cardinal Mahoney and his flock might need a little less gentle FReep before too long. We are just doing Bush-Cheney signs tomorrow in the park across the street but next time we will try stuff like:
"I stand with the Pope"
"Vote Catholic - Not Kerry"
"Pro-Life, Pro-Family, Pro-America, Pro-Bush"
Just something for you to think about in those off-FReep days of yours.
I'm surprised at Neil Diamond. I remember him performing for Ronald Reagan at the White House for a Christmas program. But that was back when preforming for a Pres. was an honor and not a partisan thing.

Diamond and Streisand to sing
Randy Lewis
May 15 2004
Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond will be on the same stage next month for the first time since Jimmy Carter was president for a concert in Los Angeles to raise money for another Democrat: presidential hopeful Sen. John F. Kerry.
Streisand and Diamond, who topped the pop charts in 1978 with their duet "You Don't Bring Me Flowers," will be joined June 7 at Walt Disney Concert Hall by Willie Nelson, Billy Crystal and other entertainers. Streisand and Diamond will perform separately, but organizers say they are discussing singing "Flowers" together at the event.Tickets are $2,000 for only the concert.
Tickets that include the concert and dinner with the candidate are $10,000 and $25,000 per couple and on sale through Kerry's L.A. campaign office at (310) 556-9172, Ext. 106...

...I also picked up my Kerry concert ticket today (* scan above courtesy of Arthur) - the letter with the ticket says the secret service has closed the underground parking garage under the arena that night, so all attendees have to park in other lots.
The show will be starting later than the posted time due to the security concerns - curtain up at 8:30pm...
