Slate's Fred Kaplan: Risk of Bush Collapse Is Soaring
Slate ^ | June 3, 2004 | Fred Kaplan

Posted on 06/04/2004 12:52:04 PM PDT by Bonaventure

The walls haven't collapsed around George W. Bush, but the pillars are buckling, the floorboards are rattling, the inspectors are probing, and it doesn't look good.

In the White House and the Pentagon, senior officials face the prospect of criminal charges. The vice president is accused of malfeasance, at best. A key erstwhile ally in the war on terrorism has apparently turned against us in an act of criminal perfidy. And now the nation's spymaster has turned in his cloak—it's not yet clear whether he jumped or got pushed; either way, Bush's risk-rating has just soared.

Sorry, buts damnably hard not to be too cynical these days. Can't wait till the Bush family dog writes a book about how W shoots puppies with a BB gun.

It's a shame to see a company that prides itself on intelligence (Microsoft), own and support such a nonsensical outfit as Slate.

I hope you will visit your local shopping malls, and sign petitions to get Nader on the ballot.

Wishful thinking on Kaplan's part. Given the recent conclusions of the 9/11 Commission report, the American people will not turn over their national security to John Kerry who never met a defense program he liked. Kerry's chief foreign policy advisor has just had to resign ignominiously because he was caught stealing classfied material. The Democrats are not serious about national security, proved it in the 1990s and have demonstrated continuously since 9/11.

Bush will win comfortably.
