Global Warmers Adopt New Tactic
FoxNews.com ^ | June 4, 2004 | Steven Milloy

The global warming treaty known as the Kyoto protocol is politically dead in the U.S. But the treaty's left-leaning environmental extremist supporters haven't given up their fantasy of creating a socialist global economy through controls on energy use.

Rather, they've merely switched tactics to achieve that dubious aim -- and I'm not referring to making dopey movies like "The Day After Tomorrow". The new tactic is to pressure publicly owned corporations into taking steps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions -- essentially committing to private Kyoto protocols on a corporation-by-corporation basis.

The sort of pressure employed by the global warming activists is not the usual one of forcing corporate managements to cave-in under the threat of bad publicity. Instead, the activists are becoming shareholders of publicly owned companies, attempting to steer corporate policy under the guise of being owners of the corporations. During 2003, these activist-shareholders filed resolutions with more than 25 companies urging the companies to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Corporations are accountable to stock holders. For example any corporate board that respondes to jessie jackson or his bond firm goons, should be booted out of office for breach of a fiduciary duty by agreeing to extortion.

Of course. But I had a particular cohabiting couple in mind. Charming couple, very pleasant when their hate for those who touch a hoe to the sacred soil of the small garden beside the house doesn't cause their loathing for the excess 90% of the human population of the planet to ooze from their pores and drop sizzling on the ground. You may have met them.

Actually, the other tactic they are employing - unfortunately - is to run the provisions through state government. From what I hear, my own WA State has had many of the little pieces pushed. There was some governement official saying how "we" would adopt - in principle - 65% of Kyoto or some such thing... After learning today that all schools, churches, and apartments in the state that do not have a sprinkler directly above cannot have (as of July 1 - just in time for 4th of July) a briquette or propane BBQ or REAL Christmas tree, have a headache. These elected LAW MAKERS never get tired of passing legislation for our own "good" and "safety."

When I called a county office today one official said not to worry, because they didn't (yet) have "enforement money". Well great... As if insurance companies won't immediately notify each apartment and condo complex manager that they won't be covered if people have a BBQ on their little decks.

They fact is, we American (sheeple?) are being pushed to live closer and closer together, but with fewer freedoms, but at the same time we are told it really is "good living" yet bits of our cultural habits are eradicated. We're told that we should keep more land for "mitigation" and environment - even as we allow more and more people into the country...

In Pierce County, when something is built the county must grab 15 acres of land for every 1 acre they use for "mitigation" (moving species, adding trees, creating wetland etc.) Yes, a ratio of 15 to 1! Landowners are being "relived" of property through extremely easy emminent domain/condemnation laws, with 90 days to get off their property. Currently one man has been told he needs to give up his small farm - which is a mile and half AWAY from new bridge contruction!) while closer and empty lots are being sold for offices and having townhouses built upon them! I think it is because his land (zoned for farming) was cheaper than the corner lots zoned commerical and so a family is MOVED OFF THEIR PROERTY AND OUT OF THEIR HOUSE and the empty lots are built up... It makes me want to cry.

Fighting this has been difficult and not yet successful. The only day citizens are safe is when there is a snow day. And even then more laws are "coming due..."

Maybe we should practise holding our breaths - will reduce the Carbon.

If I may humbly suggest... let those who are all worked up about it be the ones to hold their breath. Perhaps if they do it assiduously enough, it will set an example.

The lefties could probably solve most of the problems they bloviate over instead of wasting their money on defective democrat candidates and hand-wringing movies.

Let them waste their money. The last thing we need is lefties effectively solving problems.

Ah Pierce County.......Just got my property "value change" notice. It went up more than any year since we bought our house. I guess they WANT us all to live in apartments, so they can dictate to us more and more just how we should live. Well, bbq IS bad for you y'know.....what with the carcinogens and fat and everything. Besides what did that pig ever to to YOU? Yada yada yada.....
