I suspect that each of you is speaking of different boatloads!

She may be talking about a boatload brought to what is now NY by Dutch settlers (the forebearers of FDR). They were here before the VA colony of 1603 as I recall. Plymouth (MA) was years later.

It would be interesting to know which she intended.

The first "slaves" in the history books are the ones brought to Jamestown and are the ones usually cited as the beginning of slavery in the British colonies in NA. They came as indentured servants.
