This sounds weird, but I think some of it may be due to the high-pitched voice of Geddy Lee (especially in the earlier years). My wife can't stand the higher notes, and I read a study where most women like bass sounds more than the treble. Plus, not too many love songs! Although she did go to a concert with me when we were first dating ("I gotta marry me this gal!)
I was thinking of going to their concert in the Seattle area this summer (White River Amphitheatre). What do folks think about bringing my 9 year-old son? He's just starting guitar ($100 acoustic variety!) and thought he might have enjoy it. I have a feeling it wouldn't hold his attention though.
Def. go check this show out...I want to bring my son who is gonna be 5...there were plenty of families in the crowds and kids singing every song.
Chicks loved Journey (in the late 70's and early 80's), and Steve Perry's voice was pretty darn high-pitched.
I think RUSH is appropriate for young kids. There's no misogyny, foul language, or body parts hanging out. They're from an era when you didn't have to double-check everything for objectionable content.
Your son would probably think it was the coolest thing in the world. Actually, Rush was the first concert I ever went to, Grace Under Pressure tour, Fastway opened, lol.
On another board I used to go to some girl made a comment about guys who listened to Rush and built models and I replied "hey, I used to build models while I listened to Rush!"
