Bush seems like he is about to cry watching the Pope try to read this. It's sad.

The Pope is speaking right now. Most of his speech is incomprehensible--I can pick out every 3rd or 4th word, even though he's speaking in English--but I did hear him say, "resolve the situation as quickly as possible" and "United Nations."

I cannot even watch it...it is so pathetic.
I am praying that President Bush is given the strength to sit through this horrible scene.
My son is still watching and asking why they do not have a screen behind the Pope with a copy of the text so people can understand what he is saying.

How torturous this must be for those in attendance.

It's nice that Laura has her head covered. Most catholics don't even do this anymore.

I'm not watching, but I'll assume from everyone's comments that the Pope was having a weak moment, as he does so often because of his health.
But IMHO, if he mumbled or not, the political impact of this meeting is what matters.
You've got Bush, who is not a Catholic, meeting with the Pope, bestowing an honor on him.
On the other hand, you've got Kerry, who is a Catholic, openly defying the edicts of the church in supporting abortion and gay marriage.
If I were a Catholic, the symbolism of the whole scenario would be quite telling.

Touching ceremony.
Strenuous to watch due to the Pope's physical condition.
[I can hear the lib/dems spin today, 'See, GWB is moving even closer to be more like John Kerry by trying to convert to Catholicism.']

I'm not Catholic, so I may not understand everything, so please forgive any blunders I might make.
Is this something that will be significant to Catholics, to see the President with the Pope?
Would Kerry be allowed to have an audience with the Pope given his stance on abortion?

Compare and contrast this meeting with that of Clinton when he was president.
Bush showed great respect, and will actually listen to the Pope, as opposed to X42's shameful and disrespectful performance.

Wow....how could any thinking American not be proud of that wonderful man that we call President. Of course I want him to win the election, but even if he doesn't, for my lifetime, I will always be grateful that I was alive when such a great man was my President. God Bless President Bush.......
