Text of CIA Director George Tenet's letter of resignation to President Bush:
Dear Mr. President:
I am honored to have served for nearly nine years as Deputy Director or Director of Central Intelligence for two presidents. After thoughtful deliberation with my family over the past several months, I have reached the difficult decision that I should step down as Director of Central Intelligence and retire from government service effective 11 July 2004.
I am proud of what we have accomplished in revitalizing the Central Intelligence Agency and restoring critical capabilities to our intelligence community. Your leadership and steadfast support have allowed us to accelerate the modernization of the entire intelligence community, thereby enhancing our operational, analytic and collection agility around the world. I am especially proud of our focus on rebuilding human intelligence. As a result, American intelligence today rests on a solid foundation. The men and women of the intelligence community continue to perform with great skill, dedication and passion, often at great personal risk. They represent the most important advantage we have in protecting America's families and interests. As I leave my position, I know that most of all, I will miss the men and women with whom I have had the privilege to serve.
My tenure as Director of Central Intelligence has been the most challenging and rewarding experience I could ever hope to have had. I will forever be grateful for the honor and opportunity you have given me to work closely with you on behalf of our nation.
Finally, I want to thank you for the great care you have shown for the men and women of American intelligence. Your leadership has made an enormous difference to us all.
Stephanie, John Michael and I thank you for the support and kindness you and Mrs. Bush have extended to our family.
With deep respect,
George J. Tenet

I can't say I'm upset by this development.
Ping.
A Clishnev/x42 left over? (i think it's schpelled write) That would explain alot.
I won't say what I think of this shamefully presented and handled event. For personal reasons, of course.
Make that one president and a pervert.
The letter sounds like it came from a strong supporter of President Bush.
That's a cheap shot. I do not question the integrity of the man. He is being gracious and publicly stating his support and admiration for our President. He is most unlikely to do anything to undermine Bush as others have done. He has spent more time with Bush than could have dreamed of spending with Clinton so what makes you think he has any loyalty/connection to X42? Whatever your personal opinion, it is not a debatable point.
It sure does. Whatever he is, he does not appear to be a turncoat like Reynold's Wrap-boy.
Thank you.
I wish him well and hope he speaks out about some of the goings on during the administration he also served under that I notice goes completely unmentioned except when one extrapolates out the timeline of his tenure. He sure emphasizes what a great leader President Bush in particular is.
Did you post on the wrong thread by mistake?!
I did, didn't I? What was the right thread now?
This is the headline in the New Zealand News today.
The letter comports with Tenet's public statements during this administration.
It is why I and others were pointing out to those misguided enough to cry about an impending Bush-bashing tome were wrong.
Here's something shameful. An article that appears to be presenting malicious falsehoods disguised as news:

From The Corner at NRO:
Good point from Jonah's Military Guy (Jonah lets us share):
Well, unless the new Director of the CIA is a total idiot, there is no way a documented tell-all will make it in time for the election.
Anything Tenet wants to write about his tenure as Director will have to be vetted and approved by the CIA or Tenet will [head to] Leavenworth.
That process takes time - and, unless the President were to direct that it be expedited (with GWB, possible, he's really got an excessive loyalty gene) it couldn't get through the review process in time.
I have to wonder about some at The Corner sometimes (and you know I'm a huge fan of SOME over there) if any of them seriously thought Tenet was going to write a book.
Don't they follow the news like we do?
Sheesh
I hope you're right and that Tenet is honorable. That is so rare in Washington that I would not be surprised to see his book hit the racks in the next few months.
After reading this letter, I'd be disappointed....but I wouldn't be surprised.
Sad how jaded we become watching american politics at work, isn't it?
This is even better:
WHAT A WAY TO RUN [KJL]
Candy Crowley on CNN on the Kerry campaign not wanting to talk much about Tenet: the candidate "doesn't like to interrupt his campaign flow with the unwanted distraction of news."
Hope he would plan to run a White House differently.
Of course, let us pray he never gets that chance to demonstrate whether or not he will...
