That crash report may have been a hoax, but I still think a meteor is the likeliest explanation - the skies were clear, so thunder seems unlikely, if not impossible.

Yes, the CRASH was a hoax. Not the meteor itself.
Check some of the Washington tv websites out...they show night turn to day.
