CBN.com CAPITOL HILL - We have heard much in recent weeks from the media about shameful photos and video of American soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners.
Americans were disgusted, yes. But that was nothing compared to what was unveiled on Capitol Hill Wednesday. Shown were shocking videos of horrific atrocities committed by Saddam Hussein against his own people, one of the main reasons America went to war.
The tape is hard to watch, and the senators who released it say that is the point. The tape is proof positive of the reality of Iraq under Saddam Hussein. At first what you see are Saddam's henchmen preparing to chop off a body part, presumable because of some crime against Saddam and his government.
The video continues. An Iraqi man is about to have his tongue cut off, and the pain is unbearable.
On the tape, versus from the Koran are quoted. There is a line about how this is being done in the name of Allah, and in another part, one of Saddam's soldiers explains what is about to happen to the next victim, who is about to have his arm cut off.
Later in the tape, there is a beating that goes on for a while and then a beheading, with a mob standing around to watch.
Throughout all of the video, Senators Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) stood to the side, motionless, not watching. Many others at the press conference could not bear to watch either. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) says comparing the mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners by some American soldiers at Abu Ghraib prison to torture like this is wrong.
Santorum said, "When we found out about that treatment, we prosecuted that treatment and these people are being severely punished. That's the difference, and it's a difference that is a real difference with a very meaningful distinction that at least has some have missed."
As for how the tape went public, Santorum asked the Defense Department if they had any video showing Saddam's torture. Though the tape has been in the possession of the Defense Department for some time, it was finally released to Santorum this week.
Hi,
I did not see the video link. Do you have the link?
Yeah, but at least the guy that got his tongue cut out didn't have to wear underwear on his head. Just ask Teddy Kennedy which prisoner treatment is worse.
Maybe the FCC would let Howard Stern air them... well maybe not. :-)
Maybe Fox will carry this?
After the non-stop prison "pictures", the media should get a outrage storm over not carrying this video.
Perhaps, the rats will do just what they did with the Clinton rape evidence. Refuse to view it. That way they could honestly say they saw no evidence of rape.
So much for the Dem tripe that Saddam would not have colluded with Al Qaeda because he was secular...
bump!
Uh, oh! More panties?
Yeah, but the same Congress people are in the mood for America bashing not retribution for Nick Berg's ill-fated demise.
About time this was pushed home... We need to put out more of these videos.. of course it won't make a bit of difference to the libs.. they aren't interested in truth once they've made their minds up.
If you click on the article title, it will take you to CBN.com. Then you click on the little camera icon for "CBN Newswatch" that should be it. I watched it this morning on 700 Club. I don't have high-speed Internet connection, so I can't watch it myself again.
Well, we didn't see Nancy Pelosi rush to the women's rest room, then to the cameras with a sickened expression, so there must be nothing to this....(sarcasm)
Good for Santorum.
This should be on all the channels to remind people why we are there, yet, I agree, the alphabet channels will never do it.
Agreed.
Exactly; I always make it a point to note the source and take it into context when reading or commenting on a news story posted here on FR.
This one is from CBN.com
From CBS, CNN, ABC, NBC, PBS, BBC we hear:
((( the sound of crickets )))
Did she really do that at some point? Haven't heard of it, but it sure sounds like her type of histrionics.
Oh yes, after they viewed the "rest" of the photo's Nancy staged her little drama. Personally, I've always thought she went to take a cold shower.
