It's not even LotR vs HP - which is a silly argument, it's apples and oranges and most people I know enjoy both. It's "Harry Potter is eeee-vil" versus "No, it isn't".

I guess I keep jumping to conclusions. HP is not the world's greatest literature, but the only reason for being against is would be if it were evil. However, even if judged against "serious" literature, HP is better than 99% of everything else on the bookshelves.
