I can not believe someone who is living in America can write such a thing.

Do you seriously contend that you, who have been living in America for years and can speak English, can not find a way to relocate to a place you can find employment? Can you not discover some way to create a job for yourself?

All through the history of this country, all sorts of people have started from BROKE and become modestly wealthy.

You have excuses, for sure, in abundance. Next time, just respond, "That's because the sky is blue." Any excuse is just as good as the next.

Folks like yourself make me laugh.

While I am not in the same situation as RaceBannon, I was there two years ago. I did end up moving and I did end up using credit cards to finance the move. Two years later, I am still paying on them and other debt I racked up while unemployed.

You said, "All through the history of this country, all sorts of people have started from BROKE and become modestly wealthy."

Yes you are right. But I am sure most of those didn't have to sell their old house, buy a new one, pay moving costs, & deposits. Bootstraps are wonderful things to pull yourself up by, but sometimes you need a little more. Luckily for myself, I had a job set up at my destination to begin.

Try to not be so judgemental.

Back to the economy...

Anyone want to place bets that there'll be a job surplus by November?

I want to be fair to Race. He is sincere. There are many factors that can affect the cost of a move. Tha being said, he lives in a high-tax, high regulation state and will have trouble finding work until the state changes or he moves.

RaceBannon - I'm trying to get a handle on why you think it is so expensive to relocate. If you have been unemployed for 3+ years, certainly you can't have that many possessions that need to be moved. I assume you live in an apartment. Do you have children (that would be coming with you)? Is there some reason why you couldn't rent a U-haul for 100 bucks instead of hiring one of those shyster moving companies ? Yes, you'll need a couple months' deposit for an apartment. You'll find that in the places that have high job growth, the cost of living is so much lower that 2 months rent = 1 month's rent in Conn, so it won't cost you any extra (especially if you move to a ratty hellhole temporarily till you get a job). Something tells me that a move isn't impossible, it's just impossible under the parameters you've set.

And how many of them had to deal with the laws that restrict us in certian endeavors?

I can start a bodyguard busniess tomorow, but I need a license first, and that means i need 5 years experience in some law enforcement first...

I have been retraining, reschooling, applying, and re-applying, and nothing up here.

The want ads are dismal.

And I live in an apartment and do not have a garage to store stuff If I did buy some landscaping or something, yet up here, the immigrants are taking that over, they worked for years, bought their own trucks, and now undercut the other landscapers because they hire only immigrants.

I also do not have a conestoga wagon to put my stuff in, nor can I live off the land and just up and move to greener pastures. If I move, it will be because I FOUND a job somewhere, not ust pick up and leave all my debts behind and refuse to pay them and move to live for $8 an hour somewhere...

I have somethngs I can do around here, but no one is hiring!

My degreeis preventing me from getting the lower paying jobs that I would love to do but hate to get paid that low for, they all tell me I will leave when the economy picks up...only up here, there is no pickup!

Too many people here have not seen this hit them or their area yet.

The 2 machine shops I visited this morning all told me they are ready to close because of outsourcing. They get a little prototype work, but no production work, it all goes to China! It is cheaper to have China make it, then ship it here!
