Democrats See Smoking Gun in E-Mail on Halliburton

WASHINGTON — Democrats on Tuesday called for a full investigation of one of the most politicized issues in the reconstruction of Iraq: whether Vice President Dick Cheney was involved in a decision to award Halliburton Corp. a multibillion-dollar contract to rebuild the country's oil infrastructure.

Democrats charged that a recently released U.S. Army e-mail showed that Cheney, president of Halliburton between 1995 and 2000, had coordinated action relating to the contract, awarded without bidding and worth up to $7 billion.

The nonprofit Judicial Watch obtained the one-page e-mail earlier this year as part of a Freedom of Information Act request to the Army Corps of Engineers, which awarded the contract in March 2003.

"Every single aspect of this is so out of the ordinary," said Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) at a teleconference organized by the Kerry campaign. "It raises the real question: Can the American people trust their government to do the right thing?"

Now that Abu Ghraib has run its course, it's on to the next scandal.

We need to start a pool on what the next scandal is.

My bet is that due to the stresses of the office Dubya has slipped back into an alcoholic stupor and is not able to properly execute his POTUS duties.

Leahy: "It raises the real question: Can the American people trust their government to do the right thing?"

We sure can't trust you, Leaky.

"Democrats See Smoking Gun..."

Democrats couldn't recognize gun smoke if they stuck their entire head down the barrel.

Well, the Larry Flynt GWB abortion story is coming. And I guarantee you there will be a racial story/incident within a few months of the election. Black voters must be given their red meat so they will vote in droves to prevent their own kids from getting school vouchers.

Yawn! Halliburton was the ONLY COMPANY THAT COULD DO THE JOB!

Why not investigate Fiensteins hubby's companys contract over there? Reputed to be over 6 billion?

"Leahy: "It raises the real question: Can the American people trust their government to do the right thing?" "

I believe this should be addressed. Cheney ran Halliburton and was awarded the contract during the Clinton administration.

One more thing that will be part of the Clinton legacy.

Many government contracts are let on a no bid basis.

If a company is not able to complete a job based on insufficient resources or is a sole source of a particular product/service, no bids are required.

They know this. Standard procedure.

My favorite Abu Grahib headline was that the interrogators weren't using their real names with the terrorists. Of course, they should have given home addresses too so their families could more easily be targeted.
