TONY Award-winning actress Marissa Jaret Winokur was humiliated by a bunch of snotty Rodeo Drive salesclerks when she shopped for a dress to wear as a presenter at this coming Sunday's Tony Awards. In an episode reminiscent of the scene in "Pretty Woman" when Julia Roberts' call-girl character is humiliated by store attendants, Winokur found out a few days ago how a plus-size girl gets treated in America's chicest shopping spots. ..............
Winokur went to Gucci, where she saw a dress in her size that she liked. But she was immediately told by the saleswoman: "Your boobs won't fit in that dress." ........................
By the time Winokur got to Neiman Marcus on Wilshire Boulevard, she was practically in tears.
Winokur found a dress she wanted to try on, but a shopgirl hustled over and screamed, "You can't just pick up a dress! You will ruin it! It is beaded, you have to be very careful! Put it down!"
"There was nobody in the store, and they still wouldn't help me," she says. "I know I look like I am 12, but I was ready to drop $10,000 on a dress. You present at the Tonys once in your life - who cares what the dress costs?"

Stanley Marcus would personally wait on anyone who wandered into the part of the store he was in.
He would be so ashamed.

You know I was treated the same way when I was looking for a special dress at Robinson's (before they joined May Dept stores in Calif in 1994) and the sales person was very uppity with me,I was a size 18 at the time, she told me well we don't have dresses in your size, making me feel very ashamed for being not petite. I can't afford a lot of money for clothes and Robinson's was not Gucci's but they sure were snobbish like Rodeao Drive merchants are snobs.
That surprised me about Bridal Salons. I mean, they're clientelle is limited, why would they want to piss off any of their specialized customers?
I saw a similar incident once in a fur salon. A "full bodied" young, well-groomed woman took a coat off a rack for a closer look, the salesperson walked up immediately, took it from her hands and put it back on the rack saying, You could never fit in that. With that she turned her back on the young woman and walked away. Although clearly embarrassed the girl browsed around for a few minutes, slowly made her way to the door and left.
You know what was hilarious about this article??? The story is about a not so attractive overweight woman who was being discriminated against because of those facts. So whose picture does the Post choose to put in the story about this unattractive, overweight woman? JESSICA SIMPSON whose name is mentioned once in the article!!! ROFLMAO!!!!
I didn't know money came in "fat" and "thin" varieties.
Until recently at least, Neimans printed the story about Mr. Stanley, as he was called, first working in the store in the 20's. The discovery of the East Texas Oil Field had created a great many instant millionaires, and one day a barefoot woman in a flour sacking dress came into the store and wanted a mink coat. Mr. Stanley helped her find a coat she liked, which she paid for in cash, and then proved he had a future with the company by showing initiative and using the oportunity to also sell her a pair of shoes.
I have been removed from department stores for terrorizing clerks that were not suitably helpful.

Why am I not surprised ? :) LOL. I've never been removed but on one occasion I did have to bring one "to heel".
There are still fur salons?????
Oh, yes. They never really went away completely in some areas.
Fat bottom girl you make the rockin' world go round
"Big bottom...
Big bottom...
Talkin' 'bout mud flaps
My girl's got 'em!
Big bottom drive me outta my mind...
How could I leave this behind?"

Ping.
Sure don't get treated like this in Wal-Mart!
