CAIRO, Egypt (AP) — Arabic-language satellite television stations showed videotape Wednesday of two men — an Egyptian and a Turk — saying they had been kidnapped in Iraq and were being threatened with execution.

Masked men seen on the grainy, black-and-white footage said they would try the men according to Islamic law. The Al-Arabiya announcer said the two men had been accused of treason. Part of the tape also was aired on Al-Jazeera television. The stations were monitored in Cairo.

The Egyptian was quoted as saying that he was transporting goods for the U.S. army. He held what appeared to be his identity papers.

Al-Jazeera's announcer said that the kidnappers demanded the Egyptian and Turkish governments condemn actions such as working for the American army in order to secure their release.

Thank goodness they aren't threatening to do something really awful, like put women's underwear on their heads.

Nothing for them to worry about, then. Everyone knows Islam is a religion of peace, after all. Allah Akbar!

How can they be tried for treason when they are not Iraqi's? One is an Egyptian and one a Turk. According to Islamic law they have to confess of their crimes before they can be punished for them. I'm sure it will take more than putting panties on their heads to get them to confess.

For sure they wouldn't want to do anything so inhumane.... and they can see what kind of bad press such actions get in the US.

No, it would be far more acceptable to the Howard Raines' of our land that the heads of these two unfortunates be sawn off with a dull, rusty knife.

I've about had it with these terrorists. THEY WANT AMERICA'S ATTENTION? Let's GIVE THEM OUR ATTENTION! Let's go for the [currently] top nation harboring terrorism and simply wipe out the terror strongholds in a bold stroke. Bombing raids, special forces, etc. A quick blitz. Complete surprise. We've had our little cooling down period. I'm not saying we need to even invade any place. Just blow some strongholds up. Maybe leave one standing if we have it infiltrated with enough operatives, and if it's led by an incompetent, or someone vulnerable enough we can drug into incompetence-- with regular amounts of LSD or even mercury, perhaps.

Surely Amnesty International and the Red Cross/Red Crescent will intervene and ask to see the prisoners. < /sarcasm >

Glad to see I'm not the only one with insomnia. Yeah, I'm sure that the same standards that they hold us to will also be expected on those who represent the religion of peace.

The media is so busy with granny panty hats to keep Keith Maupin in the news.

I pray he is alive and well.
