BAGHDAD -- Sunni Muslim Ghazi Mashal Ajil al-Yawer was named to be Iraq's interim president yesterday, a move welcomed by many Iraqis who see him as a strong tribal chief capable of leading the nation through elections early next year.

This is a really exciting thing to watch.

This is the most important appointment. It legitimates the Kurds who already have a functioning military branch to come out of the North and help restore order in the rest of the country. This will allow US troops to seal off the borders (the Kurds are doing it too on the Iranian Border)and take the pressure off so that we can begin the next phase of the wars which will be intimidating Syria and destroying its rogue government and Iran. No one knows how Iran will turn out, whether the government will collapse once Assad is gone. But the die is cast.
