COMMI-PINKO ALERT
Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade Counter-March

CALL OUT THE TROOPS! PULL ALL STOPS! MPJC NEEDS TO MOBILIZE AS MANY OF ITS MEMBERS AND THEIR FRIENDS AS POSSIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN A COUNTER-MARCH IN MILL VALLEY ON MEMORIAL DAY.

The committee that is sponsoring the Memorial Day Parade in Mill Valley has rejected the application of MPJC to participate in the event on political grounds. It claims that because of our vigiling and opposing the war in Iraq that our presence would dishonor US troops that have died there. The City Manager has retracted his offer to give us a permit to march immediately after the "official" parade because this would violate in his view a Supreme Court decision that gives a private group that organizes a parade the right to decide who participates. We are contesting this and getting advice from the ACLU. Our position is that this is a national civic holiday and that if a city government allows a private group to organize a march for a public event that does not permit it to abandon the Bill of Rights.

Therefore, MPJC IS MOUNTING A COUNTER-MARCH TO PROTEST THE HIJACKING OF MEMORIAL DAY IN MILL VALLEY.

Assemble at 9 am next Monday, Memorial Day, in the downtown plaza of Mill Valley. (Miller Ave. & Throckmorton St.) Bring posters and banners.
(If you arrive early you may be able to find parking in the surrounding neighborhoods. Better yet: park in the lots at Tam High or Safeway across the street & take a shuttle that will be provided in the front of Tam High.) The crowd around the plaza will grow increasingly dense, so stay together and be cool.

We will vigil in the plaza until 10:15, just before the "official" march begins up Throckmorton at Old Mill School. At 10:15 we will move out along Miller Ave. and only go to the sidewalks if the police demand it. We will march to the viewing stand near Tam High and take a position opposite it on the median strip during the rest of the "official" parade.

When the parade is over about noon, many will want to return to the downtown plaza where we will have put up tables at 8:30 with our materials. Carrying our posters back to the plaza will strengthen our presence and message.

There will be a poster-making party Friday at 7 PM at the First United Methodist Church.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO TURN OUT FOR OUR COUNTER-MARCH ON MEMORIAL DAY TO DEFEND OUR CIVIL RIGHTS & SPEAK OUT FOR PEACE!

Can any FREEPERS get to Mill Valley to help show America's support for our troops and the great work they are doing?

I'm not sure that it wouldn't be better just to ignore the pieces of garbage.

I couldn't help noticing that they have to "simulate" portraits of dead civilians.

I disagree. It is alright to always oppose violence. It may not be rational in the face of terroism to many, but if you really look at what the buddha said, it does make sense that violence never makes sense. think about it. no really, think about it.

You may feel that way but it just might kill you. You don't believe in self defense?

Violence is part of human nature, unfortunately bad people do bad things.

You would not try to stop them? Should we disband all armies and police forces and just ring our little bells?

Then what?

It is right to oppose violence... with violence.

Some swine comes after me and mine with ill intent on his mind, he is leaving feet first in the company of the coroner.

Singing "Kumbaya" has NEVER detered a single attack. Having a gun, however, has detered millions of attacks.
