60 Minutes is at it again, trying to sway public opinion against the war, and against President Bush. Andy Rooney's segment (old senile fart that he is) showed a photo of every single soldier that died.
60 Minutes, and CBS, is beyond disgraceful... They're doing SKerry's dirty work, at no cost.
You can be as disgusted as you want, but your comments are severely misguided, and myopic.
Showing war dead is appropriate for Memorial Day. However, when people start saying 800 killed you would also say and yes that is sad and wasn't it sad that over twice that many (over 1,900?) were killed in one week in flood in Haiti?
Rooney didn't even attempt to convey WHY they lost their lives, what the cause was...
"Give them a break! They don't have the air time to show the 3,000+ killed in the World Trade Center."
I saw what was going to be on 60 Minutes, so I pulled out the "911 Movie" tape that I recorded a couple of years ago...the one that the two French brothers made. They were filming the NYFD and continued filming during 911. I HAD forgotten the horribleness of that day! And the awful sound as bodies hit outside one of the buildings. This film should be shown about once every three months...until there's no terrorists left on the planet.
or 500,000 in rowanda
Your constant rants against President Bush and Iraq have gotten REAL old already. The folks at DU would LOVE to have your opinions over there.
Exactly!
For comparison purposes, 43,000 died in car accidents in the U.S. last year alone. 43,000!!!
Hey, upstate New York does have some Republicans.
Umm, he didn't say anything cavalier about the loss of U.S. lives. He was merely stating that CBC was using it as agitprop against the administration and our goals in Iraq. An opinion with which I agree.
Gee, what a shock, right?
"fatidic: of or relating to prophecy"
Here's a little "prophecy": If we don't get rid of these Islamic nutcakes pretty soon, you really ARE going to see "missed pay in U.S. jobs, lost lives, lost limbs, etc. and the loss to families broken up for long periods of time." Slick was one real "prophetic" president, wasn't he? Did nada, zilch, nothing for 8 years while the swarm of vermin named terrorists grew and increased in strength. Then when a man FINALLY comes along and stands up to them, liberals go crazy...and "wobbly". We either fight back now, and yes, suffer some hardships, or we start digging mass graves in this country for ourselves. Freedom comes at a big price. Probably some "prophetic" American founder said that...
TAKE A HIKE BOZO!!!!
I V-chipped my set to block anything that contains the number "60" or the word "Minutes".
Cheney generally does interviews where most people see him and when he does, he always speaks off the top of his head. He's great on a one-on-one interview which is where most of the public sees him. Cheney is a strong well-spoken conservative and good as a VP. We just need him to speak out more.
As for reading, you must be talking about when he gives a speech. Cheney and Bush would both be more effective in connecting with the public if they would adlib more in the speeches. At that level of government all Presidents and VPs prepare remarks and read them. That's just how it is.
Honoring those who sacrificed is absoulutely appropriate---but Rooney did his expected spit upon the flag and those who defend it rant before (something about the idiocy that cost them their lives) and the photos were shown with a melancholy soundtrack from an anti Vietman War morvie by Oliver Stone. This was not done to honor anyone, but was a blatant anti-war propaganda statement.
That's my only qualm with VP Cheney, but I think it's huge. His viewpoints are excellent, he was brilliant at the '00 debates, but he needs to get the message out more forcefully, and "stand by his man"!!!
Perhaps you prefer that they just fade away.
