In America's battle-scarred political landscape, there is only one thing on which Republicans and Democrats agree: that the country has never been so divided. Even the world of dating has become polarised, as thousands of lovelorn Americans flock to websites exclusively for one party or the other. No one is buying the notion that opposites attract .
Out go typical first-date questions such as 'what's your job' and 'are you looking for a serious relationship?'. In come chat-up lines like 'what's your stance on abortion?' or 'how do you feel about the Bush tax cuts?'. In short, ideological compatibility is becoming more important than a gym-toned body or well-paid career.
And it's not just on the internet. Dating is practically a national sport in America but as the battle for the White House rages politics has entered the game. Agony aunts are dealing with questions about how to cope with dating people with different politics. A recent episode of comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm had its lead character stop mid-seduction after noticing the woman he was grappling with on a couch had a picture of George Bush on her dressing table. 'You're a Republican?' asked Larry David in shock, then got up and left.
Certainly politics matters in the bedroom for Anthony Kreuger, a sales representative in Bellflower, a suburb of Los Angeles. Kreuger, 25, a Republican in the Democrat heartland of southern California, recently signed up with RepublicanSingles.com, a website devoted to meeting like-minded souls.
'It is difficult to be a Republican around here. For me it is really important to have shared values. I don't want someone to be a mirror of my views but you need to have political stuff in common these days,' Kreuger said.
But the same goes for the other side too. Tony Sandoval, founder of RepublicanSingles, has also set up DemocraticSingles.com. Both sites were founded in the past six months and both have attracted hundreds of members. Sandoval said the election and the war in Iraq had created a market for people desperate not to end up in arguments with their potential dates. 'These are very contentious times. People want to date people with whom they share views,' Sandoval said.
There is now a mini-boom in catering for singles keen to date their political bedfellows. Tom Swanson, a St Louis-based web designer, has created SingleRepublican.com, after his own search for a right-wing woman left him frustrated at being unable to screen dates for their political opinions. 'Necessity was the mother of invention,' he said.
Other websites include LiberalHearts.com, which gained fame late last year by organising a 'Who wants to be a First Lady?' contest among its members for Dennis Kucinich, an outsider liberal candidate for the Democrat presidential nomination, who is a bachelor.
Then there is ConservativeMatch.com, whose members come from the right-wing end of the spectrum. A sample questionnaire on members' politics asks if they agree with such statements as 'The homosexual lifestyle is immoral' and 'Every law-abiding citizen should have the right to bear arms'.

learningleaders.org 'Hundreds of people a day have been signing up and that is without a marketing campaign,' said co-founder Brian Barcaro, who hopes to branch out into organising singles events for its members.
It is a long way from the 1990s when romance was able to cross political barricades - symbolised by the marriage of Bill Clinton's political strategist James Carville and Mary Matalin, adviser to Republican vice-president Dick Cheney
During my dating years, I never applied a political litmus test to my dates. In fact, politics never even came up. I was fortunate to marry a conservative woman because as I became more politically aware (when I hit my 30s), that became much more important to me. If my wife was a card-carrying feminist-liberal, it is safe to say that the marriage today would be strained at best.
I thank God that I am married to a good, moral conservative woman who loves the Lord Jesus Christ. We just celebrated 23 years last week.
Tell the truth, my friend..."Liberal women are easier, much easier!"
So true...
And they whined. Man, did they whine. I was appalled at all the hand-wringing and angst and general misery they displayed. It was SO boring.
I also felt contempt for "men" who knew less about how to handle a gun, a truck, or a circular saw than does a delicate little lady like me. Made me wonder if there was something else they didn't know how to handle, if you know what I mean. So they didn't stay in my life long. I have one whining after me right now and I have to steel myself to tell him kindly that he needs to stop sending me whiny emails about how depressing life is when you're a prosperous successful guy like him. Sheesh.
Tell the truth, my friend..."Liberal women are easier, much easier
So tell me gentlemen, is that a good thing or bad thing for you?

Yes, his head looks like a penis, but his penis looks like Robert Redford.
All I come into contact with in academia is nutzoids.

Snarf!
You're absolutely right. Liberal women go down a lot easier. The question is, do you want to marry some slut who goes down for everybody, just because she "has needs" and "felt in the moment"? Believe me, that is not going to stop once she gets an expensive ring from you, so don't be surprised if you find yourself in divorce court a few years later with the liberal wife and her feminist lawyer picking over the last few shreds of meat on your carcass.
Instead, marry a conservative girl who believes in Jesus, takes hte vows she made before God seriously, cherishes chidlren and traditional values, and will study Dr. Laura's book on The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands." You'll be a happy man.
I have to agree. These liberal women will never straighten out.
My daughter calls my son-in-law a closet republican. He claims to be a democrat, but always votes conservative. He is just starting to come out and voice more and more conservative views. There is hope for him, in the meantime we discuss general political views and do not head for the meat. That time is coming.
One of the strangest opinions he had was gun control. Both of them have a CCW permit, but he refused to load more than 10 rounds into a 15 round magazine. He felt he should follow the law banning high capacity magazines even though the magazine was a "pre-ban" model. He now carries a full 15 rounds. In 2000 he was a Gore supporter at first, but when Gore started in on gun control and the wacko environment he changed.
There is hope for him, we just have to be patient.
Perha Ken, but they are tainted.....;^)
Huh? That should be..."perhaps"...lol
It depends on what the man wants. If he wants cheap, forgettable sex, and possibly a disease or two, then yes, lefty women are much better.
If he wants kids, a full life, and a future outside a hospital, then there's no contest.
