Old bomb off Georgia coast raises fears in wake of Sept. 11

The bomb, 100 times more powerful than the one that leveled Hiroshima, was never found. Military officials said there was no danger of a nuclear explosion and eventually abandoned the search, leaving the bomb resting in the sand and muck between Tybee and Wassaw islands.

Then came Sept. 11. Suddenly, the unfound bomb took on new significance because of the possibility it could be exploited as a weapon of mass destruction or, at the least, used to make a "dirty bomb" to spread radioactive material along the Southeast coast.

"In these days of terrorism, I can't believe the United States is going to let that much uranium sit within a mile of the beach and within three miles of downtown Savannah," said Arseneault, now 77 and living in Knoxville.

I would like to demonstrate on this site that there is far more to the Nights than just a collection of fairy stories for children.

In the Egyptian desert just after the Second World War a fragment of paper dating from the ninth century and containing the opening lines of the Arabian Nights frame story was discovered and subsequently published by Nabia Abbott.

Shahriar was a Persian king; not an Arabic sultan - and his capital may have been Ctesiphon. It certainly was not Baghdad, which was not built until 762 AD, 121 years after the end of the Sassanid dynasty

Caliphate

Caliph (ÎáíÝÉ) was the title taken by Abu Bakr, the father-in-law of Muhammad, when he succeeded him as leader of the Ummah, or community of Islam, in 632.

The holder of this title claims rulership over all Muslims. The Caliph combines four roles that are often distinct in the Western world. These roles are:
