ALOHA RONNIE is most correct, in 'Nam that was the call sign to broadcast in the clear that an American unit was about to be overrun and thus triggering a priority response from every American aircraft within range of the target.

However, "Broken Arrow" has also a more recent meaning. It is the code phrase which means a nuclear weapon has been lost. This was first brought out in that sorry movie with John REVOLTA of the same name. Turns out, there was a grain or more of truth in the title. There are several such "Broken Arrows" that are public knowledge scattered around the globe. God knows how many have been lost and the info is classified.

Yes, I know about the lost bombs.

But also feel that it may have a more simple meaning.

A broken arrow, I would think might mean something along the
lines of the Nam meaning.

To a Native American, it might have meant the same, "Need help", follow the arrow.

My thought is that the simpler message may be closer to what was intended.......But I am also aware of the bombs as a possible threat.

There are a lot of Indians in Georgia, so it fits in my mind.

And I may be completely wrong, won't be the first time.

Thus, I see it also as a calling of the terrorists, that now is the time to help and complete the war/plan.

Sending someone an arrow was (as I recall) a call to war, or as they are doing now a threat of war.

I am sorry that I didn't pay more attention to my Indian Heritage in the past years.
