KHOBAR, Saudi Arabia - Tens of American, European and other hostages were released Sunday and a gunman believed to be the lead Islamic militant holding them was arrested, a Saudi security official said, adding that two other gunmen were "in the process of being arrested."

Fire on the Seattle monorail

SEATTLE - A fire broke out on the Seattle Center Monorail late Monday evening around 5 p.m. Smoke was pouring out of the blue monorail as it was just on the south side of the Experience Music Project. There were some passengers on board. Fire crews were able to successfully evacuate all of the passengers and the fire was reported under control around 5:30 p.m. Officials with the Experience Music Project tell KOMO 4 News that operations there are still normal. Traffic along 5th Avenue near Broad Street was blocked for the fire response. There have been no reports of any injuries at this point, but can see medics treating some people on the lawn near the scene. We're still waiting for more details from the Seattle Fire Department.

AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! I STRONGLY AGREE. I think these trying times may have wound up the emotions overmuch. It seems to me, it would be wisest for all sides to take 3 steps back; breath slowly 6-8 seconds in; 6-8 seconds out for half a minute or 3. Calm down. Probably some on all sides need/would do well to reconsider what the priorities are and how potently powerful--at least for TM'ers but very probably for FREEPERS and more than a little for the Republic as a whole.

I'll give that one a shot JellyJam. I think they use those satellite phones. Don't know if they can be tracked. But chatter I believe is just what it sounds like. Plans to attack being put out, be it through phones, online or what have you.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on the phone thing.

I do not believe they use Satellite phones much anymore, they are actually highly traceable due to their signaling. They were sort of used as "homing" devices in Afghanistan at the start of the war. From what I know, most high-level communication is either through the internet (throw-away e-mail addresses, disappearing websites) or in many cases, by courier.

I'm assuming "chatter" refers mostly to what is picked up through internet surveillance and regular phone calls between parties that do not know they are being tapped. It also obviously refers to various other discrete Intel gathering as well as deciphering what AQ/Friends are directly disseminating to the public.

your post brings out a topic that I have been wondering about. We've had KSM, and Zubayda and Binalshib in custody for 2+ years now. Is there any information comning from them now that is still pertinent to possible current and future terror operation? I've got to believe these guys are a well run dry now, too much time has passed for them to be giving information that could be pertinent today. If there were any AQ "big plans" on the books from when these guys were still inside - they have surely given that information up by now under interrogation.

Its the new stuff we have to worry about - not sure if we've had any AQ captures at a high enough level to flush those out.
