"I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat"
KHOBAR, Saudi Arabia - Tens of American, European and other hostages were released Sunday and a gunman believed to be the lead Islamic militant holding them was arrested, a Saudi security official said, adding that two other gunmen were "in the process of being arrested."

World Bank President James Wolfensohn has said at least two-thirds of Iraq's debt would have to be forgiven to rebuild the country properly

Haven't had much time on the computer recently. I'll try to get it in my "library allotted" time. :)
Bahrain's King will use the G-8 summit to showcase his country's efforts to remove a dictatorship and establish democracy since he took office five years ago.

A repeat, but worth looking at from Jill's site:
What About June 23, 2004 ????
As most visitors to my site are aware, there is a post from the Arabic forums referencing June 23 and an international event. To refresh you, this is the post that I am talking about:
On 5 / 5 / 1425 hijri an international Islamic event they waited
I call on Ba for a guidance of this
This means about a history of 23 \ June \ 2004
This according to the mother of the villages calendar
About two months and 6 days
But do he is an event or a hitting there a difference ¿¿¿¿
And if hitting was according to what understood the brothers from you
Do is from the wisdom the declaration of it so !!1
But we will wait with you ..
Click here to view the entire web page from the Arabic forums
To add to that, I am bringing to your attention the following information:
On June 23rd, the International Freedom Festival gets underway in Detroit , Michigan. Relevant? I am not sure, but here is what I do know:
The International Freedom Fest has been held every year since 1959, "for the purpose of dramatizing the friendship between the American and Canadian people and publicizing this friendship as a worldwide example of the benefits derived under "free government." Last year, it took 5 days for dozens of specialists to load 3 barges with 250,000 lbs. of fiberglass mortars, 100 miles of wire, 500 tons of sand and more than 10,000 fireworks shells for the annual fireworks display.
The city of Detroit has 50 % of the population of the United States within a 500 mile radius. Within that 500 mile radius are Wall Street, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade, among other international financial exchanges. Statements from the Arabic forums for the past year have indicated that they wanted to crush the US's economy. Additionally, as reported in the media, there has been increased activity by Al Qaeda in Canada.
Hamtramck, Michigan the city with the Islamic prayers over a loud speaker five times a day, is a suburb of Detroit (approx. 4 miles out). It is also home to one of the largest Muslim communities in the United States.
Add all of this up, and I would say that there should be a little bit more concern being given to the Detroit area than a two mile area in New Jersey designated last week by the FBI as one of the hottest spots in the country.
The Two Other Dates To Watch
References in recent terrorist publications have mentioned the Tales of the Arabian Knights. Terrorist attacks usually occur on some type of anniversary of an event of importance to them. There really is no rhyme or reason as to how they determine the anniversary...some are so many years to the exact date of an event, others have some numeric value that has been used to target a specific date. There are two dates that should be considered as prime dates for some sort of terrorist activity, both are 1001 days from major events.
June 8, 2004 is 1001 days from September 11, 2001 (WTC attacks)
and
July 4, 2004 is 1001 days from October 7, 2001 (Date Troops Were In Afghanistan)
Given the reference to the Arabian Knights, this may not be as far fetched as it seems. Al Qaeda has been known to send messages in this type of manner in the past!
My dad was in charge of civil defence for my county in the 60's. He was adamant that if you understand radiation and know how to protect yourself, you don't need to fear it.
This is a good page with lots of info: http://www.epa.gov/radiation/understand/radiation.htm
The educational pages for students are great too:
http://www.epa.gov/radiation/students/types.html
Also see http://www.epa.gov/radiation/students/what.html
These are great resources.
There are three main types of ionizing radiation. They may be found in sources of man-made radiation as well as natural radiation sources. They are called: alpha, beta, gamma.
Alpha
Alpha particles can be shielded by a sheet of paper or by human skin. However, if radionuclides that emit alpha particles are inhaled, ingested, or enter your body through a cut in your skin, they can be very harmful.
Beta
Beta particles cannot be stopped by a sheet of paper. Some beta particles can be stopped by human skin, but some need a thicker shield (like wood) to stop them. Just like alpha particles, beta particles can also cause serious damage to your health if they enter your body. For example, if ingested, some radionuclides that emit beta particles might be absorbed into your bones and cause damage.
Gamma
Gamma rays are the most penetrating of the three types of radiation listed here. Gamma rays usually accompany beta, and some alpha rays. Gamma rays will penetrate paper, skin, wood, and other substances. To protect yourself from gamma rays, you need a shield at least as thick as a concrete wall. This type of radiation causes severe damage to your internal organs. (X-rays fall into this category, but they are less penetrating than gamma rays.)
This is a 2001 article from Venezuela online news. Supposedly, this was when Russia and Venezuela started getting chummy:
International News

Russians welcome Venezuelan Defense Minister's visit to probe future military cooperation pact
Venezuelan Defense Minister Jose Vicente Rangel's visit to Russia has been welcomed by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov in a first official statement initiating their dialogue on military cooperation ... "we've analyzed concrete proposals to strengthen relations between the two ministries, but it would be premature to reveal them at this particular moment."
Accompanied by Armed Force (FAN) Joint Chief of Staff Army General German Marin and Military Intelligence (DIM) Chief General Rafael Martinez, Rangel is visiting Russian military installations, arms factories and reviewing military technology that Russia is already exporting worldwide ... the delegation will return to Venezuela this weekend.
The Russian Itar-Tass press agency says Rangel and Ivanov have discussed the international situation and the character of military threats without directly referencing the US spy plane incident in China or continued US military intrusion of other nations' air space.
(snip)
You both have valid points. What I was trying to say is this is not a war like wars of 1000 years ago. The main goal is not to obtain land. Yes, they do want to rule the world in that they want a Muslim world. If they were to dominate the world they would have the land but I think their main goal is to rid the world of all religion or philosophy that isn't Muslim.
Briton Killed in Saudi Arabia Shooting
Associated Press
JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia - A Briton was killed and another injured Sunday in a shooting in the capital, the Riyadh police chief said, just hours after the Saudi foreign minister said the government was doing "everything we can" to protect citizens and foreign residents.
The police chief told the official Saudi Press Agency that gunmen opened fire on the two Britons in a Riyadh neighborhood about 5:45 p.m.
The shootings come less than a week after 22 people, most of them foreigners, were killed in a shooting rampage and hostage-taking in the eastern Saudi oil hub of Khobar. Saudi security forces captured one of the four attackers in the May 29 assault and are still looking for the other three.
Many view the attacks as an attempt by Islamic radicals to drive foreigners out of the kingdom, a move that could seriously hurt its oil industry. The attacks last week sent oil price to record highs.
The British Foreign Office has advised British nationals against all nonessential travel to Saudi Arabia. The United States has gone further, urging all of its citizens to leave the kingdom - a move criticized by Saudi officials.
Earlier Sunday, in Jiddah, Foreign Minister Saud Al Faisal told a news conference that terror attacks in the kingdom will not force the government to give up the fight against "this oppressive group that is isolated legally (and) socially."
Saud's remarks were the first to reporters by a Saudi official since gunmen in Khobar attacked two office compounds and then took hostages at a hotel in the luxury Oasis housing compound.
About 50 people were at the hotel when the gunmen took it over. The gunmen killed at least nine hostages before they escaped in the early hours of May 30.
The militants' escape rattled Saudis and expatriates. Asking how the militants could slip away, many people have expressed a lack of faith in the ability of Saudi security forces to protect them.
Saud said the government is providing expatriates the same - and in some case - more protection than it is giving its citizens.
"I don't know what other assurances can be given," Saud said. The safety of the hostages in the Khobar siege, he said, was the first priority of the security forces on the scene, a strategy that was right even if it resulted in the escape of the hostage takers.
"It was the right priority for the security forces to give first priority to the hostages and not to attack prematurely and jeopardize their safety, their lives," he said.
"These criminals have no inhibition against taking lives," he added. "That this led to the escape of some of the terrorists is something that happened."
The official Interior Ministry account of the end of the standoff was that the three gunmen used hostages as human shields to escape Saudi commandos who had landed on the hotel. But some officials have said that the men were allowed to escape because they had threatened to kill all hostages - an account the government is sensitive about because its stated policy is not to negotiate with terrorists.
A U.S. official, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday, said he was not aware of any deals with the hostage takers to end the crisis.
The official also said American officials had played no part in Saudi decision-making on how to end the standoff and offered no advice to the Saudi security officials in charge of the operation, as some Saudi officials had said.
He said FBI personnel were sent to Khobar, a standard U.S. procedure to determine the cause of death of an American citizen. An American died in a shooting before the hostage taking.
The U.S. official said seven U.S. military personnel, in the kingdom on a training mission, were in the compound - but not in the hotel - during the standoff and that two of them were wounded. The official said the U.S. Embassy was in contact with Saudi security about the seven during the standoff.
Another U.S. official in Washington said the Saudis were told that some members of a long-standing U.S. military mission were in the compound. So the Saudis "modified" their strategy and did not immediately storm the building, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Saudi officials have linked militant violence in the kingdom to al-Qaida or to other groups believed inspired by bin Laden. Saudi-born al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden has vowed to destabilize the Saudi government, which the Saudi-born extremist views as insufficiently Islamic and which he derides for its close relationship with the United States.

State Funeral
On Wednesday and Thursday, Reagan will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol before a funeral at the National Cathedral on Friday followed by a private sunset burial at the presidential library in California, House of Representatives Speaker Dennis Hastert said on CNN.
Leaders of the G8 group of the world's major industrialized nations are meeting in the U.S. state of Georgia this week, which would allow them to travel to Washington for the funeral.
It will pose a major security challenge for a city already on high alert against terror threats following the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

jerseygirl - where (aside from Jill's site) is this info coming from about alleged nukes traveling by speedboat and truck?
If you have a source, I'd greatly appreciate a link.
(I have no doubt AQ wants to hit us hard, but believe it will be with tanker trucks or some other conventional hit..I have read quite a bit about the missing Russian suitcase nukes, but maybe just don't want to believe the horrific is possible/likely).
TIA!
""all this meteor / impact stuff is beginning to get out of hand"
~~~~~~~~~~~
Why would you say that? None of us are in the know about anything on here. Just all looking for clue's. The way the terrorist are star gazers I would think it important."
I find the Meteors interesting. I have been following it all at TB2K, and that is where it is getting pretty wild(out of hand), with the dubunking of AB, and then the debunking of the debunkers, etc. It is hard to tell what is going on right now with the suppossed June Meteors, but Asteroid Toutatis will be here in September for sure. What it brings with it, who knows.
I wonder how much of that is a scare tactic from whichever group is pushing it.
A couple of weeks ago, Rush was talking about alternative fuels, and said we will never get them until we are very close to running out of oil, and he said there are apparently 200 to 300 years' worth of oil left.
Amen!
I strongly agree.
I encourage you to avoid getting your knickers in a twist just because granny or someone else does. Many of us hereon have strong opinions. Some have a hard time tolerating strong opinions askew from their own.
I MUCH AGREE THAT THE DIVERSITY, BREADTH, DEPTH OF DATA, PERSPECTIVES AND EVEN OPINIONS HEREON MAKES FOR THE MOST ROBUST ANALYSIS AND PREPAREDNESS.
I consider even those inexplicably hostile to me still friends and pray for them even if they for some unknown, odd, inaccurate reason now consider me beyond the pale. At some point, it's their loss and I move on. Besides, as you say, I don't think their scroll key is broken though they may pretend inability to use it.
Would give you half a dozen aloe plants if you were in town!
They do ok in a south window in the winter.
Drinking the stuff was like a cross between library paste, boiled okra and . . . alum or some such.
absolutely awful. I could imagine taking it in capsule form. No more drinking it for me. SUPER YUK!
Thanks
True. I just see them having decided very emphatically that doing so means ALSO/AT LEAST conquering, taking control of land.
They especially have their sights set on Saudi Arabia. Then, the world step by step. I would not want to minimize their forceful intent to conquer land part and parcel in step with their other efforts at conquest.
They've been vocal enough in land terms.
I will go digging. It was most probably on either the HomelandSecurityUS.com site, or Jill's. Those two seem to have the specific hinted at details. (Plus the pictures.)
