"I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat"
KHOBAR, Saudi Arabia - Tens of American, European and other hostages were released Sunday and a gunman believed to be the lead Islamic militant holding them was arrested, a Saudi security official said, adding that two other gunmen were "in the process of being arrested."
We are the "Stotters" who make ourselves aware of the enemy who wishes to do us harm
You're partially correct Oorang. There in fact was a meteor, as witnessed and heard by many. Even got the flash on video. The hoax was the so-called "meterologist".
Some of the diseases rats and mice carry or cause include:
1. Rickettsial pox a disease similar to chicken pox and is spread to people by mites that are usually found on mice.
2. Rat bite fever is spread to people when they are bitten by an infected mouse, rat or rodent.
3. Food poisoning (namely salmonellosis) is spread to people when food, food preparation surfaces or dishes are contaminated by saliva, urine or feces from a mouse.
4. Mice and rats can spread parasites to people such as trichinosis and tapeworms.
5. Hantavirus is a respiratory disease that is carried by small rodents, especially deer mice. It is spread to people when they breathe in dust that contains the rodents infected saliva, urine or feces. Although uncommon, people can also get hantavirus if they are bitten by an infected mouse.
And this from a website about flea-borne disease:
Plague is spread to people when they come in contact with fleas from infected rodents or when people are bitten by infected rodents. However, today plague is usually spread to people by rodents like prairie dogs and squirrels.
Plague
Otherwise known as The Black Death, this disease is one of the oldest known and is found world-wide including the USA. In the fourteenth century it spread across Europe and was responsible for wiping out one third of the population.
The causative organism is a bacterium (Yersinia Pestis) and it is primarily a disease of rodents especially rats. The infection is spread to humans by the bite of the rat flea (Xenopsylla cheopis).
Fleas become infected by feeding on the blood of an infected rodent. When the rodents die the fleas go in search of a new host. They can then transmit the disease to humans who become their hosts.
The disease manifests itself in two forms; bubonic plague and pneumonic plague:-
The symptoms of bubonic plague appear suddenly about seven days after exposure and include high fever, headache, muscular aches, shaking chills and pain in the groin and armpits due to the formation of buboes or swollen lymph nodes.
Untreated, the disease can spread rapidly throughout the body via the lymphatic system. When the lungs become infected an infectious pneumonia may develop.

Do you want to know the damage one terrorist can do to a town?

"Message purportedly from Department of Homeland Security. Has the feel of a prank to me. "
That is a quote from the email!
This MAY be a hoax; in fact, it probably falls under the urban legend category. Either way, because it's not a new message.
Here's why: I work for the US Postal Service, and needless to say, we have been on a heightened state of alert since the anthrax cases in 2001; numerous safety talks, BOLOs, etc. Back in Dec. 2003 my immediate supervisor had also received this e-mail forwarded on to her as an FYI and she read it to my shift as an addendum to our normal safety talk. Because of the nature of our processing facility, we occasionally get deliveries from UPS, and even though we are supposed to be a secure facility, WAY too many people have the access code.
So... this one has been seen at least 6 or 7 months ago, and AFAIK, the first time I heard it, it was never confirmed.
Still, a few precautions are in order:
1) Always look for an identification badge; if they're not wearing one, ask to see it. They are to be wearing one at all times. Do not allow access to your home or place of work if they are unable to present one.
2) If possible, look for the truck. If anything seems out of the ordinary, jot down the tag number.
3) If you are not expecting shipment of anything to your home/business, do not open anything left there unexpectedly. Contact your local UPS; they should be able to pick up tracking info for you.
Just a few tips that come to mind...
Thank God it's a hoax. Too tired here to read carefully...bid you all good night.
Good night, DC.

There are a number of "2003--Dale Jarrett UPS" uniform jackets, sold individually, but not more than a few dozen from what I can tell. But can't find anything in the quantity you mention.
He appears to be a NASCAR driver, and I suppose is sponsored by UPS, I don't follow it myself though.
Here's a link to one of the completed auctions for one of these:
Bump and thank you Kev!
Thanks for the link. I had not seen that, but it's good to know it has been investigated/debunked.
Funny... my "hints" were posted off the top of my head. Glad to see Snopes concurs :)
Must read
Yikes...good information. I just wonder if any symptoms occur with the people from New Jersey, if we will ever even hear about it.
Exactly. Or if it will be another one of the stories that falls through the cracks...
SP? Where did you see this? So alarming!
