Today President Bush spoke at the opening ceremony of the WWII Memorial on the Mall in Washington D.C.
ENJOY YOUR VIST TO SANITY ISLAND
WW1 might well have been avoided if TR had been president. He would have told the Kaiser not to think about conquering his neighbors. Instead we had the egg head from Princton. The egg heads usually don't know when to come in out of the rain.
The Kennedy and Gore (sounded just like Hitler) rants may backfire as little governor of Vermont's did.
BTW anyone interested in what the terrorists' plans for us are should read Kenneth Timmerman's "Preachers of Hate: Islam and the war on America" and the "Protocals of Zion." It is hard to believe well educated people could believe this nonsense. But there are the "egg heads" again.
When Timmerman interviewed the French Ambassador, he said "of course we lied to you at the UN. That's what big boys do"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have looked from time to time and not found for certain how many might have been made beyond the initial offerings. The second one is not available at my library. Amazon might have the info.
I really enjoyed this book about FDR, not because I enjoy reading about FDR, but because it gives so much new information about how he prosecuted the war -- and because it does the same for Churchill, one of my most favorite flawed heroes. The author makes many points about what one knew and would not tell the other, and how sometimes each man knew that the information was known to the other but was withheld, etc., and how they played their parts in the diplomatic dance in light of these things.
I have an antipathy to FDR as a person and the way he did most things; I consider him slimy; but I do give him credit for knowing how to move the American people by degrees, almost imperceptibly when that was necessary, into position to crush the Nazis. He's one about whom I read with one hand on the book and the other holding my nose, figuratively speaking. Having Churchill woven in as an equal on the world stage gave it a very savory counterpoise.
The line I'm hearing is that there is no -- repeat, no -- connection (prepare yourself) between the war on terrorism and the war in Iraq.
Hi GEM,
Clinton, Bush the Younger, and Bush the Elder were talking together, and then Bush the Elder, who was facing Clinton litely did a "Get Out!" shove to Clinton. Clinton had to catch himself or might have stumbled backward. I think I saw Clinton starting to reach out to Bush the Elder tho. That's what it looked like to me...Clinton started to touch Bush the Elder, so Bush the Elder beat him to the punch and kind of shoved him.
I interpreted it as a "don't touch me" kind of thing. We do not know, of course, what was being said.
See my reply on THE SHOVE.
And yes, Churchill was special. I have his one volume abridged and illustrated The Second World War on my table now. He knew that war, forwarned of that war, and wrote of that war, like no other.
Hi Cubby (can I call you that?),
Thanks for the info.
"I interpreted it as a "don't touch me" kind of thing. We do not know, of course, what was being said."
If I were a betting woman, I would bet a hot latte' that this will come out in Barbara Bush's next memoir, if indeed she writes one. (C'mon, Bar, we need to know!)

Oh golly, is you M-I-L okay?
You have FReepmail - in a minute!

I'm honored to be called Cubby.
:)
There are so many of us saying, "If only my Dad, GrandDad, Uncle.....had lived long enough to see this."
I just can't believe it's been, what did they say? - 17 years in process? To honor America's greatest generation, it should NOT have taken this long.
My lurker friend, Pat and I picked up azGOPgal and her friend in DC at the WWII Memorial on Wednesday before the dedication, and then after getting them fed and on their way North, went back around to see the Memorial for ourselves. It is a spectacularly striking monument, I recommend every one put on their list to see when they next visit DC.
God bless our heroes, who died to make us free, and those serving today, to keep us free.
What is in 41's left hand?
Does anyone know what 41 said to Poppy, that caused Poppy to give 42 that shove?
I taped the Dedication and I've replayed that portion of the tape in slo-mo three times, and while I can lipread, I cannot for the life of me, make out what it is that 42 said.
Does anyone know exactly what was said?
TNT
Maybe his sun glasses in his left hand?
IMO, the reason he looks 'fraile" is because he lost weight, had a face lift, and has quit dying his hair.
Cubby was my FAVORITE Mouseketeer! :o)
And I just taped the event last night and haven't had a chance to watch it, so I have no idea what was said.........
But if anyone finds out, give me a ping, OK?
Yeah, I wasn't one of those who thought 42 was "fraile" - I had heard that he gave up carbs (translation = BEER) and has been trying to exercise more (maybe he got a cholesterol warning that scared him into living more healthy?) On second thought - forget I said that. I can think of so many retorts, I'm going to make myself leave before I start typing them.
Anyway, SnarlingCubBear gave a sort of explanation - a "don't touch me" or "get out" kinda thing. I don't know. I didn't interpret it quite that way.
I guess we're all waiting for Bar's next book, where she'll tell us, line by line, what was said, and why her son is looking away while all of this is going on!!!
Oh, to have been close enough to have overheard........
>>>I can think of so many retorts, I'm going to make myself leave before I start typing them.<<<
LOL, he will never look frail enough for me.
