was that Tom Hanks next to Pres bush? if yes , reason ?

Tom Hanks did A LOT to help raise money for the funding of this memorial

I think Tom is a liberal .. but one of the good liberals that actually does care about our soldiers that have served and continue to serve .. unlike the others that don't lift a finger but ALWAYS tell us what we should do

I'm not sure if it's out yet or if it is going to be out next week for the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

Ike is about the D-Day invasion during WWII. Tom Selleck plays Dwight D Eisenhower in it. I'm thinking of watching it.

It is an excellent movie IMHO..(Saving Private Ryan). I saw it 4 times on big screen & have DVD. Am I am movie groopie, or what? Do try to see it. VERY strong first sceen with the invasion of France. But watch it. We all really need to have a reality of the lives of our dear men who died to save/protect us. Sometimes I get annoyed with the "it is too brutal" mentality. Get real. It is real. Deal with it.

I don't know Pippin .. these men literally saved the world and never asked for a thank you

They just did their job .. came home .. raised their families and helped build the economy that we all enjoy today

This memorial is late in coming .. I'm just glad we finally did something to show these men they will never be forgotten

I would just like to have Dan Rather ONE TIME on record, saying "Mr. President......you've been very generous with your time...." and NOT have it be an interview with Saddam Hussein!

Saving Private Ryan is a powerful movie. Pay close attention to the beginning scene, and at the end of the movie, the last scene explains why Veterans don't talk much about their combat experiences. Most every VET I have known who served in combat (including my father and two brothers) have said to me that they felt a duty to be the best they could be if they survived the war and made it back to the States. Saving Private Ryan brings that message home BIG TIME

I still try to be respectful of those with opposite beiefs. If they ruthously attack our country & GWB.. well... watch out!

I am really a movie enthusiast. I will still go to movies of actors with opposing views. I will boycott movies which slam/deface/disgrace the premise of my idealism.(aka the WRETCHED,UGLY, SORRY Micheal Moore) . I don't boycott a grocery store based on the politics of the owners... and by in large I (and most) have no clue as to the politics of most ventures.. (restaurants, stores, etc)..

We need to have a handle on how to best fight the enemy . To eliminte from one's life the avenues which give us joy, seems to me a bit silly. (okay, maybe I am a situational ethics person.. but I am & will remain honest.)

I'm not worried about the brutality of it, I know war is not a pretty thing and I plan on trying to get the video of Saving Private Ryan.

The public knows CNN doesn't tell the truth. During the President's last press conference .. only 1.9 people watched CNN while 5.2 watched FOX.

I think the message is getting out .. it's just the partisan media that doesn't know it. 3 dems in the last 2 weeks have been booed over their statements about the war or the President. I sense a BIG shift in public sentiment.

I also saw today that WSJ and NY Post increased readership - NYT and Wash Post lost.

It's happening .. it's just not INSTANT enough for most of us.

"They just did their job .. came home .. raised their families and helped build the economy that we all enjoy today"

Quoting the President, "They were a modest bunch....."

The reason that the memorial has taken so long, is really answered in the character of the men who served, and who then built this country.

You're right, Dolly, I really don't see thepoint of boycotting a movie or a store simply because I don't agree with the actors in the movies or the owners of the stores.

Except, like you said anything that slams at my beliefs and idealogies. I don't watch or read anything that is Bashing Bush or the Republicans or Conservatives or Christians.

I learned of the many medals my father was awarded, during his 21 years in the Army, only after he died. My gut tells me that he probably felt he would be dishonoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice if he did.

I'm glad this memorial is finally built.

It is time we said Thank You to this great generation before it's too late, I'm glad it was built whil a lot of the WWII veterans are still with us at least for a little while.
