GREEN CAR JOURNAL: Interview with Lee Iacocca
Green Car Journal ^ | May 2004 | Ron Cogan

Note: my brother has published an industry newsletter, GREEN CAR JOURNAL, for over a dozen years. I've written for it over the years. Last year he launched the slick cover version in a magazine. From his website, here is a portion of a recent interview with Lee Iacocca. ENTIRE INTERVIEW WITH IACOCCA

RC: Where does politics fit into all this?

Iacocca: “I’ve written two books and I’ve taken the Japanese apart because of their trade practices, but what I’ve really taken apart is that this country does not have an energy policy. I’ve gone through nine Presidents of the United States and I can’t get them in 25 words or less to tell me what our energy policy is. I know that we’re at war because of oil, probably. Deep down, we don’t want to talk about it. We’re there for terrorism, right? We’ve got to make democracy come alive in the Mideast. That’s the oil capital of the world and we can’t avoid it. In a democratic nation, a free enterprise nation, we’ve put up with a cartel and accepted it, and now we’re hooked on their oil.”

TOPICS: Business/Economy; Government; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: alternativefuel; greencar; hybrids; iacocca; oil

... what I’ve really taken apart is that this country does not have an energy policy.

If by that he means a centrally planned monstrosity such as various governments periodically promote, no thanks. Until government can consistently deliver energy where it is needed when it is needed at a price that consumers can afford, I'll pass on Lee's "energy policy."

Besides, we have an energy policy. It's called the market. It works.

Doug,

The Ethos was powered by a 2 stroke 3 cylinder, air assisted direct injection engine by Orbital Engine of Australia.

Orbital's Assisted Direct Injection can be applied to autos with a 13 to 19% Improvement in fuel economy and potentially aas high as 25% when sulfur is removed from the fuel.

We absolutely can do better in this country, and I think that the consumer is finally ready. Detroit will have no more excuses. This nation needs to lead the world in this technology.

It's good to see Lee Iacocca's name in the news. It's also good to see he's still generous to the GOP.
