U.S. Muslim Group Calls for Plan Within Community to Fight Terrorism
By Robert Jablon/Associated Press
May 28, 2004
LOS ANGELES (AP) - A national Muslim group called Friday for a campaign within the Muslim community and mosques to root out terrorist supporters after federal officials said they were looking for a California man with links to al-Qaida. The Muslim Public Affairs Council's plan urged Muslims to "be on the lookout" for Adam Yahiye Gadahn, 25, although the FBI said he is not believed to be living in the country.
Gadahn is suspected of attending an al-Qaida training camp and working as a translator for the group. The FBI says, however, that he is not suspected of any specific terrorist activity.
Fliers containing the FBI's photographs of seven wanted people will be handed out to mosques nationwide, officials said.
The plan was put forward because of the Justice Department's warning that credible intelligence reports point to a possible terror attack this summer, said Maher Mathout, senior adviser to the Muslim Public Affairs Council.
The council also sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft requesting a meeting with Muslim leaders.
Terrorism has tarnished the Muslim-American community, Mathout said, and there have been accusations on some conservative talk shows that the community has failed to condemn violence.
"We are in complete partnership with good people to protect America," Mathout said as he explained the plan to hundreds of Friday worshippers at a Los Angeles mosque.
"We have so much at stake ... protecting our faith and our country," he said. "God forbid something terrible happens in America, the number one losers will be the Muslims."
The campaign says the Muslim community should give law enforcement information on terrorist suspects and emphasize that "terrorism is not a valid means of struggle in Islam." It also asks that mosque leaders make sure to authorize all lectures or talks there.
In addition, law enforcement agencies should train Muslims to identify potential terrorists and mosques should increase their communication so they can combat terrorism together.
Los Angeles worshippers agreed with the idea.
"We have to follow the laws of the land, the laws of the world," said Ahmed Saahir, 39. "I see it as Muslims doing what's right. Allah, God, said (to) do what's right."
This was done this Friday? Shoulda been done 9/12. And that might make me respect them about 1% more than I would've otherwise.
At this point, it's useless.
Protect there faith?
I-S-L-A-M The So called Religion of Peace? the faith that permits the abuse of women, the religion that wants to destroy Israel that denys the divinity of Jesus, a religion that believes suicide bombers are rewarded with a harem of virgins? Sure they can be trusted....
"God forbid something terrible happens in America, the number one losers will be the Muslims."
Translation:
It won't be 'Duck Season' OR 'Rabbit Season.'
The point is there faith ISLAM is leading them like sheep running to the end of the cliff and then falling off.
They raise their buttocks heavenward..
Thanks for this encouraging post, nuconvert.
This "community" has a LOT of catching up to do, as far as I'm concerned.
You're right to be skeptical, but you should also inform yourself.

Dispute Between Kabbani Followers and Hosts Disrupts Forum at Islamic Center of Southern California
A landmark meeting at the Islamic Center of Southern California that featured a State Department ambassador-at-large speaking on international religious freedom ended on a sour note June 8 when members of the Islamic Supreme Council of America disrupted closing comments of Dr. Maher Hathout, the centers spokesman.
More than 200 Muslims and representatives of the Christian and Jewish communities stared in disbelief as the ISCA dissenters shouted dictator at Dr. Hathout. They noisily refused to leave but did sit down when security officers asked them to.
(snip)
The controversy centers around Sheikh Hisham Kabbani, a Lebanon-born religious leader who has been in the U.S. for the past nine years championing his international Naqshbandi order of Sufism. The Los Angeles Times published a lengthy profile on Kabbani on April 15 stating he has converted hundreds of inner city African Americans to his fold. Other reported supporters include his uncle, the grand mufti of Lebanon, the president of Chechnya, the Sultan of Brunei (one of the wealthiest men in the world), and O.J. Simpson.
To all appearances, the 54-year-old Sheikh Kabbani sees himself as the catalyst for making his brand of Islam the dominant Muslim force in the U.S. However, most American Muslim organizations see dangerous divisiveness in his message. Kabbani gained the enmity of nearly every Muslim group in the U.S. on Jan. 7 when he delivered a speech to a State Department open forum.
In essence, the white-bearded Sufi charged that the ideology of extremism has been spread to 80 percent of the [American] Muslim population. He claimed the foremost Muslim student organization was directed by extremists and hinted that alleged terrorist Osama bin Laden was buying nuclear devices from the Russian mafia which could then fall into the hands of radical Muslim students in the U.S.
Thanks for the interesting sidenote, friend, but if it's all the same to you, I'll hold on to my "health skepticism" for just a while longer.
Nothing wrong with "healthy skepticism". The problem I(and some others here) have is so many people have given in to an unhealthy skepticism. Anything good/positive about fighting the terrorists/radicals is flamed as a lie. Then the same people complain that there are no Muslims that fight against the terrorists/radicals.
Re your tagline: I think I hurt myself laughing.
You complain when muslims Don't speak out against terrorism....you complain when they Do.
Just another shell game. Played for over a thousand years in the east, but just introduced to the west.
This is garbage, just a shell game. The only solutions to dealing with these scumm bags is to have Oracle build a huge data base to track all their movements, if need be body movements as well.
One thing is for sure, they will never tell the truth.
Well I'm sure you will all hate this post but that's ok. Your bigotry is showing. These people are trying to do something worthwhile to fight the war on terror. Perhaps you should consider giving them some praise for doing the right thing instead of beating them up because some are the enemy. What is the difference between your attitude toward them and the attitude that all American soldiers are bad because a few were guilty of misteating prisoners. After you get finished condeming these people for trying to fight the war on terror, tonight when you look that fellow in the mirror ask him what he did today to fight the war on terror.
You're right. I hate mooselimbs.
