Available on line at the Fort Leavenworth Center for Army Lessons Learned. Best source so far for anyone wanting to really understand the military operations in Iraq. Covers everything from planning, prep & deployment to combat ops; including the debate over force size, the 507th debacle, the capture of Baghdad, etc.
Although I have to admit that my favorite part was learning that the first Iraqi casualty of the war was inflicted by the Army's 9th PSYOPS battalion when a leaflet bundle they dropped failed to open and impacted on the head of an Iraqi soldier.
FYI. Your kind of reading.
Thanks for the link. You know, I think I get as much or more useful military information from FR as I do from my AKO account.
Fascinating reading.
Thanks for posting the links.
Any body know where I can get this as a 'pdf' file? PDF's are easier to print out.
FYI ~ Bump!
Glad you posted this. I've been pouring over it all day at work. Fascinating, and reinforces my faith and confidence in our military and their professionalism.
BTTT, I received a link to "On Point" in a comment on another thread, then I checked to see that you posted it here.
No PDF nor can you cut and paste from this website to make one.
I wanted to write and thank you for this link. When you made the post, I saved the link but I only got around to reading the report last week. Wow! There are some amazing stories -- I couldn't stop reading once I started.
I'd love to read similar reports from other organizations (like the USMC, the British Army, and U.S. Special Operations Command). But I don't have any links -- I guess their stories haven't been written, or they aren't available in the places I've been looking.
Thanks again.
From time to time, Ill post or ping on noteworthy articles about politics, foreign and military affairs. Let me know if you want on or off my list.
Thanks, bookmarked.
"the first Iraqi casualty of the war was inflicted by the Army's 9th PSYOPS battalion when a leaflet bundle they dropped failed to open and impacted on the head of an Iraqi soldier."
!!!!
LOL!!!
An Iraqi soldier was beatdown with a leaflet bundle????
IN RE: Iraq, etc. I am currently reading Fredrick Forsythe's "The Fist of God" which was originally published in 1994. This book is listed as fiction but it tells the story using all the names of the world leaders who were in power at that time and it is chilling in light of today's events. It mentions Abu Graib (sp?) and the torture that used to take place there when Hussein was the culprit. He also mentions WMD and all the reasons that world leaders at that time believed there were such things - secret purchases made from different countries and assembled later in Iraq. Does anyone know how much of this book is fact or fiction? It sounds like he must know a LOT about the ins and outs of the political and military arena. Kind of like how Tom Clancy does. Any comments?

Thanks for the link. Scimming through this report fills me with a sense of pride, no matter what the Moores and Kerry's of the world say after reading this you can in no way classify the war as a debacle or not having been thought out.
Thanks, never. This has gone on my resource list.
