Islamic Cleric Arrested in NE Phila. Raids

by KYW's Tony Hanson A Muslim cleric has been taken into custody on immigration charges by federal authorities in Philadelphia, following a raid on a mosque and two residences on Thursday morning in Northeast Philadelphia.

Meriem Moumen (at left in family photo), 33, says she and her husband, Imam Mohamed Gohorab, were confronted by armed federal agents as they took their daughter to school:

"We dropped her off and hundreds of cars, white vans -- I'm still dizzy from all the flashes -- and somebody screaming, 'Get out of the car, keep your hands up, keep your hands up.' "

Initially, she says, an agent accused her of having terrorist links, but she wasn't taken into custody. Moumen says her husband is a peaceful man with no interest in terrorism:

"He is the one who told us that your visa is your contract of peace. You cannot go bombing people, you can't hurt children. You can't hurt old people. That's my husband. That's the person they arrested."

Gohorab, 45, is an Egyptian national. Moumen acknowledges her husband is in the country illegally. She says he tried unsuccessful to get his green card.

Sources tell KYW Newsradio a search warrant was executed on the mosque and two residences by the Internal Revenue Service as part of a long-term secret grand jury investigation looking at fundraising for potential terrorist activities.

The raids took place at the Ansaar Allah ("Supporters of God") Islamic Society mosque (left) in the 2200 block of Wakeling Street in the city's Bridesburg section, at an adjacent residence, and at a home on Covered Bridge Path in the Northeast.

Eyewitnesses said documents and computers were among the items seized in the raids.

Highly doubtful.

It has dawned on me that if we do get hit again on U.S. soil, the press will say GWB failed. If we don't get hit, they'll say there was never any threat and everyone that's been arrested will be a victim of the Texas Cowboy...

Knowing that you can do no right in the eyes of your enemy can be a liberating thing...

That's an optimistic reply to a cynical observation. Tnx.

They now claim this is the East and the West has moved further West, like the middle of the Pacific I guess!

He is the one who told us that your visa is your contract of peace.

It's not a contract of peace. Where do they get this stuff?

See? It's easy to write their spin ahead of time once you get their rhythm of speaking.

I'm expecting to see lots more reports like this one in weeks to come.

Hopefully, some will resist...

Interesting. Perhaps the "visa" is considered a "contract" absolving, at least temporarily, the duty of jihad against Dar al-Harb while one lives in Dar al-Harb.

Even if he said that, lady, HIS visa expired. So the contract doesn't apply to him.
