Former Vice President Al Gore was to call for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and several other Bush administration officials in a scathing attack on the presidents foreign policy Wednesday, people familiar with the speech told The Associated Press.
In a speech at New York University, Gore was to argue that several officials, including National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice, CIA director George Tenet and a top military leader should step down because the situation in Iraq is out of control.
He was expected to place blame for the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal directly on the Bush administration officials, who he believes put in place policies of dominance and the disregard for the policy of law, said a source familiar with the speech, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity.
Gore was to claim that those policies are what led soldiers to abuse prisoners, and that top officials are therefore responsible for the scandal.
Gore was also expected to go after President Bush, arguing that his foreign policy has alienated the United States and put Americans in danger.
The speech was one of several Gore appearances sponsored since August by MoveOn.org; the liberal interest group also has a television and radio ad calling for President Bush to fire Rumsfeld.
In January, Gore attacked the Bush administrations environmental policies.

FRegards,
Rush was playing the tape in his show today, and in a politcal room I chat in a left-winger made fun of that the president had trouble pronoucing Abu Ghraib. I had to laugh when I heard the Goron pronouce Ghraib like Greb
if you remember the old pickup games of baseball, basketball etc. you will recall how fast the bad players moved to the bottom of the order. Gore is one of the "he should be good but wait till the ball is coming to him and he always botches his chance" types of player.
