BREAKING NEWS: Two Removed from Local Plane WBEN Newsroom - Wednesday, May 26, 2004 11:35 AM
Cheektowaga, NY (WBEN) - Some tense moments on a Continental Express jet on the tarmac at Buffalo Niagara International Airport this morning. Two men were removed from the plane after allegedly "making jokes" about bombs and 9-11.
FBI Spokesman Paul Moskal tells NewsRadio 930 WBEN that a Canadian passenger overheard the men, described as being of Middle Eastern heritage, make jokes about bombs and the 9-11 terror attacks. The man notified a flight attendant, who notified the pilot, who then made the decision to turn the plane around and call the authorities.
Moskal says two agents are interviewing the men, but he tells WBEN he suspects the men made a mistake in judgement and did not pose a threat. That lapse in judgement comes on the heels of reports that a cell in America may be planning an act of terror this summer. U-S Attorney General John Ashcroft will have more in a news conference you can hear "live" on NewsRadio 930 WBEN beginning at 2pm.
Sources say the local flight, headed for Newark, New Jersey, was halted as a precaution, following the guidelines of the new Transportation Security Administration, which was established to increase security at airports, border crossings, and ports in the wake of 9-11. The plane has since left Buffalo.

Middle Eastern males...
On a flight....
Joking bout 9-11 and bombs.....
I'm surprised the bastards didn't get their stinking Islamist asses kicked all over the airplane...
Semper Fi
It is quite obvious how many Middle-Easterners feel about 9-11. Absense of condemnation said it all. This sort of anecdotal evidence only confirms the obvious conclusion. They are the enemy.
the freakin lapse in judgement is passing it off as "bad judgement" of the two ME freaks. Joking about 9/11? I want pictures of these two along with a bio on them. Where are they now? Released?
and one of them was a pastor? Joking about 9/11....
And then there was the lady in the restaurant who overheard the four medical students joking. Remember what happened to her?
Hadn't heard this on the news, so thanks for posting.
It would have been VERY entertaining...
That's the kind of "mistake in judgement" I would like to see.
I'm amazed this tidbit was reported at all.
Um, being a "sympathizer" is not a crime.
I'm also disappointed some of the passengers didn't kick the crap out of them. Severe fines and a ban on any future flights should be in order. Let them make their jokes while they are riding camels on their next trip.
Rewriting these stories to discount terrorism's intent is not helping Bush or the country.
Terry, have you heard anything about this?
In light of today's news conference, the passengers would have been within their rights to beat the bloody hell out of these two. This would seriously curtail the urge for these punks to joke...
Jihad vermin.
A few weeks ago a the son of a friend of mine was participating in a rugby tournament, for kids 19 and under (most players were 18-19 yrs old) in South Africa. The USA was going to play Morocco in the next game. As a method of taunting the US players the Moroccans would pretend to be airplanes and would crash themselves into the walls of the hotel and make the sounds of explosions, while also simultaneously laughing.
The USA team (U19) defeated Morocco the next day and sent three of there players to the hospital with injuries.
As a footnote, much of the crowd and all of the other players, were aware of these taunts and strongly sided with our kids.
