FBI Agent: 2004 Will Be Remembered as 'Summer of Terror'
newsmax ^

Posted on 05/26/2004 9:37:30 AM PDT by Reader of news

Today on "Fox News Live," former FBI Special Agent Harold Copus said that the summer of 2004 will be remembered as the "Summer of Terror."

Anchor Gregg Jarrett told agent Copus that Tom Ridge said special attention will be focused on stopping terror attacks on rail, air, hazmat shipment, chemical facilities and the electrical grid. He asked if all of those were vulnerable.

Copas said, "They certainly are."

"For the last six months or so ... we keep hearing chatter and information that's filtering down ... you should really be concerned about some of the things you've discussed."

Jarrett also mentioned that outgoing Spanish President Aznar told President Bush to beware of possible pre-election bombings in the U.S., and Condi Rice seconded that concern yesterday. He asked, "Will that happen?"

Agent Copus said: "Let's hope not. But I suspect that we will see activity." He added, "We've continually underestimated them, now it's time for us to go on the offensive, and let's go look for these guys."

Jarrett said: "I'm still stunned by what you said ... Summer of Terror. Can we stop it?"

Agent Copus replied: "I'm not sure that we can always stop it. We're wide open as a country, we still continue to need to be that way, and want to be and should be. Because of that, we allow ourselves to be open to an attack."

He also thinks another opportunity for an al-Qaida attack will be this summer's Olympiad, in Greece.

Don't worry folks, our Government's Immigration authorities are working as hard as they can to ensure it will be a summer of terror.

I'll believe it when I see it. But, if these muslems cause caos this summer, there will be an outcry from the American public for internment camps for ALL muslems. Then maybe these jackasses will speak out against the muslem terrorist violence instead of supporting it. If not, let them rot behind razor wire. Abu Graeb (sp) will seem like Gay Days at Disney.

Since any terrorist attack right now would guarantee Bush's reelection, I seriously doubt we will see much of anything domestically. They will go places where they think they can have a positive impact -- like Spain.

Self-fulfilling prophecies! It's so sensational to scare ourselves to death. We magnify the power of terrorists who, if the slightest bit successful, lay our spirits low and make us doubt ourselves and our worthy leaders. We succumb far too easily. We are soft and scared by our own shadow, thanks to a media that thinks we cast too big a shadow and shouldn't be a "Super Power!"

"Since any terrorist attack right now would guarantee Bush's reelection"

DemocRATS could say the Bush anti-terrorist policy is failing and other lies, with the support of the media.

Would a pre-election attack help Bush? You and I think so, but to the folks who already hate Bush or are discouraged with Iraq, maybe not. Some people would say "Bush policies caused this attack, give us a milquetoast French president who will just pay these terrorists off!"

A series of successful domestic attacks would probably put the Republicans out of power totally. However, I don't believe al-Qaida or allied groups are capable of this. Thus, I am more worried about the Democratic attack dogs and their October suprise(s).

"We've continually underestimated them, now it's time for us to go on the offensive, and let's go look for these guys."

A high percentage of kerry voting liberals would follow "his" lead and turn tail. There is no need to go on the offensive. They will go back to leaving us alone.

Can someone tell me why in the headline it doesn't say "former" FBI? There is a huge difference between a "current" FBI agent telling us this and one that is "former!" It could very well be true but I have seen so many "former" military/FBI/CIA people on as analyst with the "sky is falling" that I tend not to pay much attention and if I don't, I can imagine others are even worse.

BTW "sky is falling" is my new phrase for handwringing.

I'm sure the decisive way we've dealt with Falluja, not allowing it to turn into a mini islamic state has cowered and intimidated the jihadis all over the world.
