Yet another reason in the long list why government should not own property in a free society.

Right. The only flag that will be legally protected is the gay flag, and any question or strange look toward that flag will get you in prision for commiting a hate crime.

"Those with the Confederacy -- all civilized people -- have every right to be proud of their heritage."

Thats right.

They are selectively interpreting the first-ammendment. All flags are banned except POW and American. Those campers should fly the Gadsden flag.

Hmmm...couldn't the campers charge the city with a hate crime? The city is creating an extreme prejudice over a group of people, using intimidation and communicating threats all based on the campers beliefs[creed].

Unfortunately, we hear stories about banning the American Flag all the time. There have been numerous stories about home owners within some exclusive neighborhoods being forced to remove flag poles and Old Glory because these poles violated the rules of the local home owners association. To the best of my knowledge, the homeowners have lost every one of these cases in court.

There was also a case near me right after 9/11, where two college students hung an American flag from the balcony of their rented apartment. This violated a "no-banners" clause in their rental agreement. The students were told to either remove the flag or remove themselves and their belongings. More than 150 rental property owners offered them new digs with the first month's rent free.

Most apartment complexes, townhouse complexes, or condo complexes have similar policies, ideally created to prevent people from posting signs for yard sales (also prohibited), or other similar signs.

My brother is a member of the Illinois Air National Guard, and he has been cited by his condo board for posting a U.S. Flag on the deck of his condo on Memorial Day, and other patriotic holidays. He can hang all the wind chimes he wants, but not a U.S. Flag.

Let's not forget Olympic athletes being told by their own officials not to wave American flags after winning...

Now I wonder what would happen if a group of Freeper campers had a spirited discussion about race, politics etc. around the campfire? Would they be expelled from the campground as well?

If the ACLU does not come out and defend the flag fliers, then it has no business claiming to defend civil liberties.

"Their right is to go to another campground," - Mayor Dan Canan

What a great argument for a public entity, Not!

Don't hold your breath. They've failed the objectivity/logical/fairness test long ago.

"Mayor Dan Canan said that he did not care about complaints that the ban violated the rights of campers."

Self admitted fascist!

Amen to that!! From the article it looks as though the Illinois branch is in agreement with the flag flyers

Excellent graphic! May I borrow it for my Sons of Confederate Veterans camp newsletter?

The article illustrates perfectly that old adage about power corrupting - someone was "offended" by a battle flag, so the local Hitler wanna-be's stepped in to "help."

Deo Vindice!

It really isn't mine - a couple years ago I received a scan of a picture that I cleaned up, blew up a bit and saved it for when it would be of most use ... like this.

I would love to find who did it originally - but it does look like a WW-II bomber graphic (probable origin)

Maybe someone who can do better graphics than I could enhance it even more??
