(snip)The resolution against Morgan listed his primary offenses as working to defeat his opponents within the party and supporting a version of a legislative redistricting plan -- a redrawing of the map of what area each lawmaker represents -- that conservative Republicans said likely would prevent the election of a Republican majority in the House.
Morgan said he didn't want the most conservative Republicans to be the party's "mouthpieces."
"They're full of gloom and doom," Morgan said.

FReeper Huber quoted !
...Huber, a delegate to the state convention who voted against Morgan, said the GOP must delineate between those who base political parties on relationships and those who do so on principles.
"It doesn't do any good to reach out to others," Huber said, "by compromising your principles."

After the vote to expel Morgan, one GOP executive committee member proposed donating $1,000 to the campaign of Morgan's Republican primary opponent, Peggy Crutchfield. The proposal was withdrawn because it violated party rules, said David Burton, 48, a convention delegate who runs a software business in Cary, "but a lot of individuals wrote her checks."Can anyone elaborate on what 'party rules' this violates? Are they beholden to support the incumbent no matter what?

Can anyone elaborate on what 'party rules' this violates? The Republican party rules in every state I know of prevent the party organization from suporting any republican candidate in a contested Republican primary.
Such a rule did not exist it would be impossible for anyone to challenge an incumbent in a primary.
Political parties primaries are by definition a constest among 2 or more members of that party. The party conducts the primary and simple fairness requires it to be neutral in any nominating contest between its memmbers.

Thanks for the clarification. That sounds reasonable.

If the party had gone ahead with a thousand dollar donation, she would have ended up with a lot less money, too. The checks that I saw heading her way were in the $250 - $500 range.

"The Republican party rules in every state I know of prevent the party organization from suporting any republican candidate in a contested Republican primary."
I guess those rules don't apply in federal elections, since the NRSCC gave beaucoup bucks to RINO Arlen Specter's primary campaign against Pat Toomey.

Said Rep. Sam Ellis, of Wake County: "Our agenda has totally been thwarted by this one man's efforts."...one totally disloyal, self-serving man, to be more specific.

Said Rep. Sam Ellis, of Wake County THAT's the Sam Ellis I was telling you about -- the one who opens doors for me and translates casual remarks into Spanish. Good guy.

"What is the NRSCC?"
Oops, I meant the NRSC, the National Republican Senatorial Committee. Its chairman is Senator George Allen of Virginia, and it spent heavily on Arlen Specter in last month's primary against real conservative Pat Toomey.
