E.L. Doctorow, one of the most celebrated writers in America, was nearly booed off the stage at Hofstra University Sunday when he gave a commencement address lambasting President George W. Bush and effectively calling him a liar.
Booing that came mainly from the crowd in the stands became so intense that Doctorow stopped speaking at one point, showing no emotion as he stood silently and listened to the jeers. Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz intervened, and called on the audience to allow him to finish. He did, although some booing persisted.
Doctorow, who spent virtually all of his 20-minute address in Hempstead criticizing Bush, told the crowd that like himself the president is a storyteller. But "sadly they are not good stories this president tells," he said. "They are not good stories because they are not true." That line provoked the first boos, along with scattered cheers.

This was already posted...with paragraphs.
Ooooh Kiki, paragraphs are your friend.
Try putting < p > at the end of each paragraph, without the spaces.
(Welcome to FR)
Arrrghhh..my eyes...my EYES!!!
"I thought this was a totally appropriate place to talk about politics because that's the world our students are entering," said sociology professor Cythnia Bogard. "I only wish their parents had provided them a better role model."
Well Cynthia, it's true, they could have taught them to be socialists/communists then you'd be happy!
I went to my sons graduation last night and the LAST thing I wanted to hear was somebodys idea of politics or a particular brand of religion. I was not disappointed and all went well. We had an invocation (rare nowadays)and talks on life in general-the important stuff. Like how making good/bad decisions affects you years later. Very appropriate and well received.

Lots of people, including graduates, should have just walked out on the man. No need to sit there and listen to his rant.
You will be booed.
Its about time these a**holes got some feedback.
Cruse, why don't you stop being such a keyboard warrior (read: A-Hole) and accept a Newbie's offering for what it's worth?
Stop being such a little guy...
Your future posts will not be read.
People will start talking about your lack of skills.
References to DU-likeness will abound.
People will start to talk about the stink.
But worst of all........
Many, many FReepers will be farting in your general direction.
Take heed. You have been warned.

Thanks for posting; I hadn't seen this story before, and am glad you posted it. I had a post once where the paragraph formatting didn't come through to the thread, even though I copied and pasted. I think the problem was that I added a HTML command for a paragraph somewhere, but didn't do it for the whole article; thus, the formatting was lost.
Don't worry about the Clymer's on this thread that are slamming you for the lack of formatting. The important thing is that the info was presented. I could care less about the formatting (actually, this thread brought out both the Formatting Nazis AND the duplicate post Nazis; you got 2 for the price of 1!)
EXCELLENT! LONG ISLAND HASN'T FORGOTTEN! BUMP-A-ROOTIE! THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO KEEP DOING TO THESE PEOPLE.
YAY HOFSTRA!
What Born Conservative said. Some of us can read big long paragraphs without gagging. In fact if you look at Born Conservative's post there are several antique semi-colons in it (one occurring within parentheses!) A sure sign of 20th century literacy. :)
"The important thing is that the info was presented." Words to live by.
Whoa! Who'd have thunk it?!
Thank you, for saying what I was thinking. Post police are so boring. Frankly, I don't care how many times an article like this gets posted, but some anti-Bush might not like it.
I booed Schumer at Stony Brook then walked around the campus till he finished *LOL*
THANK YOU! I totally agree.
Give Newbies a chance....
Then if they screw up - kill 'em!
