Karbala, Iraq -- U.S. forces battled fighters loyal to radical Muslim cleric Muqtada al-Sadr (search) in his stronghold of Kufa overnight Sunday, and at least 18 people died. Many militiamen returned to their homes after abandoning the center of another holy Shiite city, Karbala, witnesses said.

Good. We're kicking a--. Perhaps we'll be able to take this goober out.

Nobody is commenting dirctly, but it does seem that a lot more of those militiamen are dying than ours.

I agree but could we use a different term than "militiamen"? That word has such a positive meaning. I don't know what word to use, even gangster is more positive than what these guys are.

Agreed. We should also call these unregulated racist militias in North America 'gangs,' too.

To live to fight another day?
If captured, they should be executed. (Like we did with German insurgents post WWII).

I like to think of militias as the majority of American men with firearms who would be ready to take them up in the event of invasion.

Do racist militias gangs commit murder, too? Yes.

Have we had an American combat death since last Sunday? I don't recall one.

They HAVE been executed. Their numbers have gotten thinner. Hopefully they will also give up Kufa and Najaf. We will see if Sadr is still preaching on Friday.

If you go back through the news stories from Fallujah to now, we are SLAUGHTERING these toads. It really is remarkable. While, of course, any American death is "too many," the kill ratios in these operations are approaching 15 or 20-to-one. No "army" or "resistance" in history has ever survived this kind of attrition.

Any sign that Sadr is still alive or on the loose? I wonder if they went in and took him from the mosque.

I agree but could we use a different term than "militiamen"? It's an excellent and important point.
We must insist on correct terminology. We have witnessed the devolution of language and outright deception in the abortion debates.
Child murder>abortion>pro-choice>abortion rights>women's health.
The folks who do this well know that perception is just as important as the content of an idea, if not more so.

No "army" or "resistance" in history has ever survived this kind of attrition. Unless they were assisted by politicians who insisted on "negotiations" every time that army was threatened with defeat. Man, this is like a bad episode of Star Trek Next Generation. Every time Captain Lollypop should give the bad guys an ass kicking, Counsellor Troy calls for a frigging conference and whines about her "feelings". Screw that noise.

Even under those circumstances, it hasn't happened. The closest you can get is post-Tet Vietnam, and even then, we won and had Vietnamized the war until Congress pulled the plug on the support. But in one month, we killed more than 30,000, wounded 60,000, and took several thousand prisoners---all of a nation of 16 million.
Do the math in Iraq. These "fighters," even with some immigrant nutsos from Syra and Iran, can't number more than about 5,000. We are killing 50-100 a day, not counting wounded. No one can survive that kind of attrition.
