ATF Agents Arrest 14 in Multistate Operation

RENO, Nev., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- John A. Torres, Special Agent In Charge of the San Francisco Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), announced today that ATF agents in California, Nevada, Idaho, Utah and Washington State participated in the arrests of 14 people after a federal grand jury returned indictments charging them with federal firearms violations. All of the defendants were charged with dealing firearms without a license, illegal sales of firearms, possession of unregistered firearms, and possession of firearms by prohibited persons. One of those arrested, Laquan J. Abdulrahim of East Palo Alto, Calif., was also charged with possession of body armor by a violent felon, the first time a defendant in Nevada has been charged with this federal violation. This charge alone carries a maximum penalty of three years in federal prison.
Dubbed "Operation Over The Line," the year-long investigation into the illegal purchasing and trafficking of firearms ultimately led agents to individuals in three other states. During the course of the investigation, more than 400 firearms were seized with dozens more to be retrieved in the near future. ATF undercover agents purchased approximately 30-40 firearms from various individuals, including some that were illegal. The agents purchased firearms from federally licensed firearms dealers (FFLs) as well as unlicensed dealers.
"Although some of these transactions took place at various gunshows in Nevada, a minority group of people chose to use gunshows as a conduit to conduct their illegal activities," Torres said. "The gun shows were not the target of our investigation."
In addition to the arrest warrants, agents served a federal search warrant at the residence and business of Larry B. Reimer, of Pahrump, Nev. Reimer was arrested pursuant to the grand jury indictments. Reimer, a licensed firearms dealer, was charged with the illegal transfer of a semiautomatic weapon and the illegal sale of a firearm. These charges carry a maximum penalty of five years each in federal prison.
Among the items recovered at another search warrant location in Nevada were a number of firearms, including machine guns, as well as explosive materials.
Torres praised the Reno Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff's Department, the Nevada Highway Patrol, California Highway Patrol, the West Sacramento Police Department and the California Department of Justice for assisting ATF in this investigation.
"ATF will continue to reduce illicit firearms trafficking by investigating individuals who provide firearms to prohibited persons, who deal without a license, and who sell firearms illegally. Working with our state and local partners toward this endeavor will keep firearms out of the hands of criminals," Torres said.

What you may not realize is that some states can't keep murders or rapists in prison, b/c the system is so messed up that they keep getting off and going back on the streets and committing crimes, therefore, the fed gov't steps in and charges that same three time convicted felon (violent/drug related convictions)with possession of a firearm by a felon and he is facing 15 years minimum. So it really does make a difference.
Yeah let's see your horror when that semi-auto is illegally transferred to a felon that kills or rapes one of your relatives!
You have no clue what you are talking about. Most of ATF's investigations focus on violent criminals, NOT law abiding citizens and innocent gun dealers. You need to get a CLUE!!!

Do you know how difficult it would be to make the law subjective for every felon's situation. "Well this one's felony wasn't that violent and this one hasn't had a felony in 5 years." It would never work. You abuse it you lose it.

I will answer both of your questions, with this one. We should not feel bad, but mad. If your wife has a miscarriage and then is commited due to depression, should she lose the God given, Constitutionally affirmed right to own/use a firearm after she has been helped out? In such a case, you would also have to get rid of your guns, due to the fact that she would be near the guns.
How about those that get charged with something like a "high court misdemeanor", that is actually a felony? They are non violent crimes like attempted theft from a building, etc.
The laws could be written that if there was no gun involved and there was no violence, you keep your rights. Now that was not that hard was it? Also, if they want to say that illegals that have been here for x number of years without incident should get citizenship, then the same should go for felons & those that had been commited.
You seem to be of the mindset that it does not affect me, so it is ok. That is same mindset that some have about "assault weapons", they aren't needed for hunting or I don't own them so it is ok. There are those that say that everyone should have all rights, even felons and the formerly commited, unless they are currently in jail/prison/asylum/probation/parole. I lean more towards all but those that have commited crimes with guns or were violent and those that are mentally a danger to the public (in which case they have no business being out of the hospital).

Really, how would you know that? So the ATF investigates criminals that are violent, even if they don't use a Firearm? Seems you have not looked at the number of abuses that the ATF had done, you should check out http://www.atfabuse.com/ for the facts.
or Congress could simply fund the ATF review....it worked fine for 26 years and is still in place.

or we could allow personal judicial waiver from sitting Federal judges as we did until about a year ago.
many southern and mountain states already grant waivers as a matter of course but the Federal Statutes top that.
or maybe like the bootlickers would like....we can continue down this merry road where perhaps one in seven adult males are technically disenfranchised over gunrights and we can ratchet it up further....next, it will be losing gun rights over tax penalties, unpaid parking tickets, etc......don't laugh....there are already a number of misdemeanors on the books that do just that.
