THE CHALABI CHARADE

Thursday's raid by U.S. and Iraqi agents on the home of Iraqi Governing Council member Ahmed Chalabi was troubling - not least because the Coalition Provisional Authority and the White House both insist they weren't involved.

After all, shouldn't President Bush, not to mention CPA chief Paul Bremer, have known in advance about such a high-profile mission - particularly if U.S. forces took part?

Did they catch this guy or his aides red-handed on "oil for food", as an Iranian double agent, or planning a coup d'etat after June 30?

If so, then kudos to those who planned and executed the operation.

What makes the NY POst so expert on who our friends are. and someone should tell them that sometimes being able to say I didnt know about what happened is the best move. Why dont they just try reporting the news and stop trying to tell our government what to do?

"Why dont they just try reporting the news and stop trying to tell our government what to do?"

How else can they advance their liberal agenda? Most people are 'catching-on' to this BS.

The Post is not a liberal paper. It is one of the most pro-Bush papers in the Contry. It is also a Murdoch paper.

LOL! Just change the word liberal to neocon.

An adversary is an adversary.

I think a good hard look at Bremer by an entity outside of Foggy Bottom should be in the mix over this Chalabi arrest, and it should be started about 2 days ago! Someone is not serving the President and this country's best interest and that needs to be rooted out ASAP. If it is Chalabi, buh bye, if not then who (Bremer, I don't know why he was put in), but the powers that be best get their shit straight and together yesterday!!!!!!!!

Maybe because it is the same government who 'didn't know' forbidden Canadian beef products have been permitted into the country for months; the same government that 'didn't know' there about prison shenanigans in Iraq?  You have to wonder who is in charge.

It pains me to say, but I would trust Chalabi before Bremer. It would not suprise me one bit for Foggy Bottom-dweller like Bremer to do whatever it takes to save the face of his U.N. comrades-in-arms from embarrassment--or criminal probes--relating to the Oil-for-Food mega-scandal. State Department people simply cannot be trusted to put country over globo-socialist dogma. I knew we were headed in the wrong direction the moment Bush replaced Jay Garner with Paul Bremer. Imagine postwar Japan with some Commie-loving DoS creep rather than Gen. McArthur. Huge mistake by the Admin.--and the results show (badly).

I just thought of another thing and it's wayyyyyy out there. What if this was done to save Chalabi's life? Have you noticed that all the Shiia leaders are being picked off? One after another is being targeted for assassination. Maybe this was done to distance Chalabi from the US to keep him alive.

I agree. I'm deeply suspicious of anyone foggy bottom gets behind. I hadn't realized Bremer was their "boy". I did know defense was behind Chalabi. Don't you wish you knew what was really going on? One thing I feel certain about: That Brahimi guy looks like BAD news!

I am still undecided about this. I do however lean towards the State Department and its UN love affair being behind this. He may be guilty but I do not trust the State Department.

Something smells in the raid. I'm skeptical of Chalabi now, in light of the raid, but not only is he not arrested, but on Sunday he's going to be on the talk shows.

Until he is arrested and charged with something, I am going to reserve my opinion. I hope that it is resolved soon.

I would trade Russian troops for Chalabi.

I think it was an intimidaton tactic to let Chalabi know the CPA and Viceroy Bremer was still in charge. If the handover wasn't in a month, I'd say we sh*t-can Bremer. All he's doing is trying to advance his career by keeping his face in the paper instead of IGC members. People say that he has aspirations for the SECSTATE job.

Chalabi is a convicted felon, a con man, a swindler. Among those he's bamboozled are the neocons. According to reporting in the Jerusalem Post, he won their allegiance by telling them that a new Iraq would recognize Israel, allow Israeli businesses to operate there freely, and reopen an oil pipeline to Israel. They were foolish enough to believe him.

The Chalabi scandal will be another nail in the coffin of neoconservatism. Which makes it a good thing, for real conservatism.
