Randi Rhodes announced today that she is quitting Air America. Rhodes made the surprise announcement in a prepared statement at the opening of today's broadcast of the Randi Rhodes Show.
On a related note the Arbitron ratings came out (for New York only) and it is not pretty. Air America on WLIB came in ranked #24 between #25 Mexican Radio and #26 Wall of Voodoo.
LEGAL CLARIFCATION REQUIRED: If you quit on a radio show with no ratings does that count as a resignation?
The Air America message board is in mourning.
In case you missed it...here is the updated timeline of the Air America Death Watch. I won't cheat and post it but I had meant to post a prediction that she would be the first to go. From what I understand she had a bigger audience in Florida then she was getting on AAR's "national" network. I don't think her little "assassination" joke helped.

I clicked on thisw thinking it was an article about the covert "airline" of the CIA only to find an article about Frankens flop.
If I had known, I would have passed it by since even if Franken had quit it would have been irrevelant!

Did you see the special on the History Channel yesterday about Air America (the airline)? It was VERY GOOD! I did not realize the last helicopter out of Saigon was an Air America craft. One of my cow-orkers was in the South China Sea that week, and had a hand in taking the Vietnamese refugees aboard his warship.

Didn't see it but a good friend of mine flew a chopper for Air America for several years, dangerous occupation but the pay was good!
One thing History Channel probably didn't relate is that if you go down, no one will own up to knowing you and you are on your own.
They are all contract aircraft and not government owned.

I don't remember who the host was, but his brother was a pilot for Air America. They went way out of their way to dispel the "drug running" myth and did mention how the pilots were forbidden from even carrying personal weapons until fairly late in the Vietnam war. I had to delete the program off the PVR to clear space for today's Reagan film marathon on TCM. Otherwise, I'd probably watch it a couple of more times.
My cow-orker was on the Hancock and has told me stories of pushing helicopters off the fantail to make room for the ones coming in with the refugees from Saigon.
Oh, they did say the Air America pilots were pushing for recognition and a memorial postage stamp. Maybe that would be a good freep opportunity.

It occurred to me that there are 12 people on a jury, perhaps Ms. Rhodes feels judicially raped? Has she ever been the subject of a lawsuit?

Are you kidding? Wall of Voodoo should be on suicide watch. They lost to Air America. How embarrassing for them.

Ozzy Osbourne's former deceased guitarist... He's not currently deceased? You would think that would've made the newspapers.
